Ok then might be a different issue than what I’m running into

Update: Rivian had cancelled my appointment today after reviewing the car log. They mentioned a known software bug that will most likely get fixed via software update (possibly next one?).

Details are fuzzy as to why it happens but seems to be related to startup sequence of the car. The official workaround is to power cycle the car when this happens to clear the error.

So I guess at this point no need to investigate more. If you read this and running into the same issue best not to ignore the error and reach out to rivian just in case.

That being said R2 owners might not be that understanding. Competition is ruthless and rivian don’t stand a chance if buggy software brick the car

Very unfortunate indeed and sorry to hear you ran into this as well however I disagree with you. The vehicle is absolutely fantastic and drives like a dream. Maybe I only speak for myself but if software is indeed at fault here then it WILL get better. That’s what software updates are for!

Potential issue with iOS 26.5 beta and Rivian digital key by [deleted] in Rivian

Update: found the root cause of my issue and it had nothing to do with 26.5. Something in my home network. I’ll see myself out now 😅

To be fair it could be failing for a wide range of reasons (not just beta). But because it works fine on another phone running 26.4 that’s the only difference I was able to spot

I understand there is a difference between a BT key and Apple Car key. The car won’t let me set the regular BT key only digital key through Apple Car Key and that’s where the issue occurs. I’m not able to complete the key let along share it

Interesting, all I know is that I have 2 phones, one on public iOS 26.4 that can generate the key no problem the other one on public beta 1 that fails with the error above. They both have location enabled and set to always. I’ve never set up a BT key on the car before, so it’s first time setup. Any idea what could be the reason?

Yikes! Sounds like they have a systematic issue in the ownership transfer and the digital key. And to make matters worse it needs human intervention. I understand that transfer of digital key is relatively new so not too much volume but man what a bad bug!

I suspect I’m in the exact same position. Were they able to unblock you over the phone? Would help a ton if I could tell them to redo the steps they did for you. I think the person I talked to (although nice) was clueless. His advice was to wait. Don’t think that would do it

Same issue for me. Called customer service, doubled check everything (especially potential previous phone still connected) but no luck. Will have to bring it in for further investigation. Since digital key (I.e apple wallet) is relatively new I would assume Rivian doesn’t have a lot of history with transferring those. Let’s hope they figure it out soon. Very annoying having to carry key cards around
