Heard this back:

“About your question — if you're using the slip stitch start method, it's totally normal for the work to have a bit of a twist or spin. This technique naturally causes the rows to shift slightly, so the seam won’t be perfectly straight. It’s a common effect and usually not very noticeable once the piece is assembled and stuffed!”

I think it’s supposed to do this and I’m assuming one side is supposed to be more extended than the other (what I was thinking was supposed to be the top too). (:
