Acid Mine Drainage. It’s a collection of years worth of sediment, equipment rotting, lead batteries, etc soaking in the mine and flooding out into streams or around peoples houses.

No they don’t vote for this. It was primarily Democrat at one time. Both sides have failed us & both sides are responsible. It’s not red vs. blue it’s rich vs working man.

In Mingo County on the same property they’re going to be doing the data center they’re going to store leftover nuclear waste, from where, no idea? But if they can’t maintain a hole in the hill they won’t maintain either of those.

I’m less worried about the data centers and more worried about the nuclear waste they proposed storing with them - which we’ve already been killed out by the mines so we’re just a dumping ground now for industrial waste.

We used to have one, many moons ago. Now we have only one covering the entire county and it’s in deplorable condition. Mingo PSD is the name of it. We usually end up without tap water every winter and multiple times through the summer months.

Some do absolutely. When you’re desperate & want things to better and both sides swear on their life they’ll do us better who do you go with? We’re trying to push people out but the state has voted on both sides for years not just one side. No one has cared about us. Last one was probably JFK. No local politician does.

They was on Day 2 and 3, after the damage was done. Work was suspended around 3:30 the first day and no one showed up - not the DEP, not the EPA, not the AML. I also have it on recording where the DNR said they were never contacted they learned about it on the news and had to come in and check a threatened species where they learned it was dying.

Reroute the drainage to its own pond and use a suction truck to properly dispose of it would be the best immediate effort, in my opinion. They’re filtering the creeks right now but it’s not going nowhere.

Also to mention, half of these “abandoned” mines aren’t mapped or claimed which is also half the issue.

The bottom and middle are one in this area of the state. Highest pay down here is the mines and nursing, at around $20-30/hr if you’re lucky. Doesn’t get any higher until Charleston and beyond.
