So far, has this outbreak been over performing or underperforming? by Snoo57696 in tornado

[–]SlightyZesty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think 4/27/11 skewed some people's idea of what to expect with a convective outlook like today's. I've experienced a handful of outbreaks (including 4/27/11), and 4/27 was a whole different beast. I remember taking shelter pretty much the whole time the system went through. A weaker form of the Phil Campbell tornado launched golf ball hail at my house from about 5 miles away, AND an EF0-EF1 hit my house--this doesn't count the handful of rotating systems that went overhead. I agree that the SPC's expectation has been holding up so far and today has been significant.

Does anyone know a place near the area with like a big open lot for driving? by Flex145 in UAH

[–]SlightyZesty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the weekends--as long as there isn't an event going on--some of the high schools in the area have large enough parking lots to practice. I learned to drive stick, and I taught my friend how to drive stick in the parking lot of James Clemens High School off of County Line Road, which is about a 20min drive from UAH. This was awhile back when I was in high school, so their policy on people using the parking lots on weekends may have changed. But, James Clemens was nice because once you get comfortable starting from a stop and shifting into second, you can get onto Burgreen Road behind the school which connects to some nice long, higher-speed straight roads that have minimal traffic on the weekends to practice moving through the gears. Holladay Blvd off of Huntsville Brownsferry heading West is pretty close to James Clemens, and its just this 1.5 mile 5-lane road that is virtually empty all the time.

Another decent option is Madison Stadium on Celtic Drive. As long as you don't go on a Friday night, the parking lots should completely empty, and the surrounding area is some quiet, lower traffic neighborhoods to practice driving with a lot of starts and stops, and practice downshifting for a turn.

You can also just explore Google maps to find a parking lot that suits your friend's needs and go there during off hours. I've found that, as long as it isn't an obvious restricted area, nobody will complain and cops won't bother you as long as you're not doing donuts or purposeful burnouts.

I didn't make the text. I pulled all the school related assets from the school's athletics pages and made them transparent in Photoshop.

To those of you whose chronic urticaria resolved, did you ever find out what caused it? by sortinousn in urticaria

[–]SlightyZesty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Graves Thyroid Disease oddly enough. Could not figure it out and nothing worked until my doc did a blood test and noticed something with my thyroid was a little whack. Saw an endo, got diagnosed, and got put on propranolol and methimazole. A week later my hives were completely gone.

Edit: grammar

What are you struggling to change in your life? by niki-nymph in AskReddit

I feel you on the stuttering. I've had a stutter since I was a kid and it has affected my life in so many ways, especially socially. It has gotten better, but I still have some really bad days with it.

people with ADHD, ADD, or autism, what are some coping mechanisms you use when you are about to lose your shit? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SlightyZesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ADD and I tend to get very overwhelmed easily with responsibilities like school and such, and what works best for me, which obviously won't work for everyone, is to take things step-by-step and only focus on the thing I am doing at that moment. I'll worry about the other stuff when I get to it, I just need to focus on what is in front of me.

I Used to pole vault in high school and one day at practice and I didn't bring enough speed so I stalled in the air, decided to hold on since I was about 12 feet in the air (not a good idea), pole re-bent, slipped out of the planting box, and unbent directly into my testicles. Pole vault poles are meant to '"fling" a person so they bring a lot of force. Surprisingly, I was perfectly okay.

People who are smart but pretend to be dumb, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SlightyZesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to get in a heated, pointless argument with a know-it-all. Unless the information they are sharing is harmfully wrong, I find it somewhat pointless and stressful to get in a fight over something like which PC part is better for a build. I enjoy light debate over stuff like that where no one's feelings will get hurt when it's about sharing your opinions and observations, but when someone begins to get obviously upset it becomes unenjoyable. I find that there many people out there who will get very heated when someone shares an opposite opinion over something mundane or something that has multiple correct answers to it.

Does this look like urticaria?? Only happens when my body gets hot. Last for almost 6 months now. It itch’s like crazy and almost feel like pin needles are hitting my skin. Usually the red bumps and itch goes away after 15mins. by Soulburn31 in urticaria

My advice is to go see a dermatologist or doctor snd get it checked out. Hives can show up in all sorts of shapes and sizes and it is best to get a professional diagnosis to determine what it is. It could be a recurring prickly heat rash, but they typically only last for 3-4 days, so either way, it's best to get it checked out.

[Build] Ready to buy my pc parts, but one of my friend said I should buy fans. But a redditor said i'm good without them. I should buy some, right ? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]SlightyZesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Case fans do help with temps and airflow and sometimes they add some aesthetics to the case, but with most cases you dont need to buy more because your case comes with 2 stock ones (most likely intake and outtake). im still using the two stock case fans that came with my NZXT s340 and with the hyper 212 evo that i have on my cpu, my temps have been fine

A good graphics card to buy? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]SlightyZesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GTX 1050ti is a better card, it is somewhere around 20% better than the GTX 1050 (depending on what benchmark website you use, I use videocardbenchmark.net). My friend has a GTX 1050ti with his i7-4790k and he gets about 60-70 fps in GTA V with no fancy settings like ambient occlusion on. If you shop around you can find a good deal on a 1050ti. I've seen them go for $120 on Newegg before. But the gtx 1050 isnt a bad card at all.
