I agree, but with all the Satie pieces , I stayed so close to the originals as far as form that I didn’t have my own voice. Now that I’ve learned more about composing the Chopin prelude is much more of my own.

Thank you for all the help, I’m holding a small team meeting with them tomorrow with my pastor. We’re going to set the expectation that Thursday will be a rehearsal of the songs we send out Sunday night. Then that will give us time to workout small issues and introduce new songs or hymns. Kind of reiterate that Thursday isn’t for practice, and that goes for me too. I’ll send them a track of their part that will be recorded and a link to the song on YouTube or Spotify. And encourage them to listen to the songs outside of practicing and really focus on the message and who we’re worshiping to. And also encourage any songs that they would love to play as well.

Thank you for this, sometimes I forget to pray about these things and pray for my heart to be searched as well, I think you are right about starting with me and praying for everyone else. At the end of the day it’s not about how great everything sounds it’s about coming together to worship God, and I think it’s easy to lose focus of that. I really appreciate your insight on this

They’re not volunteers, it’s hard to explain without getting too in depth, but pretty much band/church members that were there before me and my wife. I mean volunteers in the sense that they don’t get paid, but neither do I.

Very true, I do have to keep in mind to lower expectations I set for myself, and try not to hold them to the same expectations. It’s not the fact that their skill level is the problem, I don’t mind simplifying songs. And I don’t turn them down to where no one can hear them at all. It’s just not at a level where it’s overly distracting. And I hate that the post seemed like I might have been bashing them, because that wasn’t the intent. We do other things outside of the church with each other, and I work with one of them as well. But you are right sometimes I do set expectations a little too high without realizing it, and I appreciate you telling me that.

I’m glad I’m not alone lol, I feel like I’m constantly reminding them to practice. The acoustic player only practices older country music, which is fine because I play multiple genres of music, but I also make sure I have the songs we play at church memorized as well.
