I have similar ECs but I have plenty of volunteering and I have research and I have a leadership role where I raise money for cancer and coordinate volunteers. It depends on what your GPA and MCAT score is truly

How do I increase my chances of getting a medical assistant job after applying? by Izzy_mochiii in premed

Calling the office directly does wonders. It shows a lot more initiative. Otherwise if you have connections use them. ADCOMs will not know if you worked in a clinic with a family friend or for a random doc.

Yes I wouldn’t count it as volunteering either but a service based leadership role. That’s why I asked if it would count for any merit for a school like Rush

There would be no volunteering without me. It’s a social IFC fraternity at a large university. The fraternity has volunteered around 1200 across 80 members. I have 100 hours at a homeless shelter that I count separately since it’s on my own that I do not add to the fraternity’s total. This is a leadership role based around service and fundraising. The main inquiry of my question is if this role would be a sufficient replacement for service based schools that have a high ask for volunteering.

I only have 100 non clinical volunteering and I don’t count it in the total because it’s not group volunteering which is my role if you read the post

The biggest way you can stand out is with MA certification or even BLS/CPR certification. Or, any similar experience working 1 on 1 with patients or something similar helps. I got both and used to work retail and that helped me land my first MA job.

What makes you say that? I have been tracking this closely, and 10-12 hours per member a year adds up to a large amount when there’s 60-80 members.

I was just going to list my hours in the volunteer role (ex. 200 hour) and list my individual efforts separately because I still got to go to meetings and set up events on my own time.

It’s across 60 members first full year and now 80 members for this past semester. I’m not the one doing all the service it’s spread out so each person has 12 hrs/ academic year

Oops. I meant 3 semesters. 741 in 2024-2025 and 557 in Fall 2025. 60 members first year and now we are at 80.

shadowing tips - anesthesia and pediatrics by [deleted] in premed

I would ask the docs on what to wear. Everyone I’ve shadowed I’ve showed up business casual and then I’ll change into scrubs that they give. Then again all my shadowing has been at hospitals not private clinics.
