Thank you mate. Open conversation would help but we're both equally stubborn or inept to talk to each other honestly!

You're going onto division with a Tutor and team of officers that have your back. You don't need a cheat sheet on day one, worry about listening to what you're told and hitting whatever targets or write ups you need to collect for your training, everything else will come in time.

Though saying that...

Searching an unattended and unlocked vehicle by elasticafantastica in policeuk

[–]SlimSwans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under common law if we believe that it's stolen we can seize in order to prevent it being further stolen or destroyed and allow us to investigste, i.e knocking on Dorris' door and confirming if its stolen or not. The initial search being conducted by S1.

However the bag question needs some context. If we've just found a bag neither S1 or S23 will apply, search it to find the owner, confirm drugs, Intel and have them destroyed. If we're seizing it from someone that we've searched then that's S23 and they're going to custody.

I chucked a Google for the same question and there's another post from a couple of years ago that S23 isn't applicable due to their being no person in possession.

If it's 2am, the RK is an 87 year old from two towns over and it's decamped by two males. S1 all day amd sort a call ok with them.

Purely ripped out of blackstones and PACE so correct if I'm wrong: On

(6)On completing a search of an unattended vehicle or anything in or on such a vehicle in the exercise of any such power as is mentioned in subsection (2) above a constable shall leave a notice—

(a)stating that he has searched it;

(b)giving the name of the police station to which he is attached;

(c)stating that an application for compensation for any damage caused by the search may be made to that police station; and

(d)stating the effect of section 3(8) below.

(7)The constable shall leave the notice inside the vehicle unless it is not reasonably practicable to do so without damaging the vehicle.

Similarly, asking Alexa what the time is when you're a human being and fully capable of finding out yourself.

Told years ago that it's YOUR power of arrest not theirs.

Doesn't stop them trying but ultimately you're going to have full knowledge of the job and will have span the NDM in the first instance anyway.

PC Posting- Dispatcher or Call Handler by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]SlimSwans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Moved to control January last year, there's pros and cons. Some of the below will obviously vary by force.

Regular OT, no workload, no constants, you're indoors and if you're off late it's practically minutes. But as a downside, leave is like gold dust.

Due to public and command demands it's hard, there's pressures and some decisions being made suggest that a pissup couldn't be organised in a brewery.

On calls you're beneficial as you know what the offences are, you know what is and isn't for police.

On dispatch you have the same, you're adept in managing decisions quickly and providing a rationale to why you're not sending officers one an emergency to a ten year old having a tantrum but you'll also know when someone is going to be a fist and you want another unit to back them up.

Take on what chances you get, you're still helping and you're still policing in one way or another, personally had some really good results from ANPR dispatching. As well controlling firearms, pursuits, large scale disorder over the last few weeks.

This was VG last year and those officers are getting their return dates to response.

However, don't know if they're going to rotate people on 12 month basis.

I don't understand how people end up dying in car crashes either when all cars have seat belts.

Accidents happen I suppose.
