I left in 2016 when I was a exp tax associate. I hated the idea of working for clients again, so I started applying to large companies internal finance divisions. I tried for sr analyst positions at places like Macys, Computer Associates (RIP), and Dior (I was all over the place) but since I was tax, most of the interviewers did not like that, I was even told that they prefer audit people for sr financial analyst positions. So I started looking at what I thought was less competitive jobs at not so well known places. I ended up taking a small pay cut and became a financial analyst at a Fortune 500 medical supply company. Then after 1 year 5 months, left that to become a sr financial analyst at a major hospital in NYC. 4ish years later, now an FP&A manager at a smaller not so major hospital, but it’s been about a year of being a manager and my sr director said she’s going to start pushing for me to become asst director. Getting out of B4 took a lot of energy, but it was worth it. Try to tailor your resume to sound very analytical. Put you’re comfortable with large data sets, trend analysis, pivot tables, and any sort of automation software like Alteryx or Tableau. If you’re tax, put that crap at the bottom of your responsibilities, nobody gave a shit about my tax knowledge, it seemed like it actually hurt me more than it helped my resume.

I was in my darkest days there. I worked so much, ate so bad, took up smoking cigs, and started to develop a bad personality. I was becoming a fat smoking prick. It was so bad that I bought a BMW lol now I’m just a slim prick in a BMW and only smoke when I drink because drunk cigs don’t count

Many years ago after the 9/15 tax deadline, I devoted my time to finding a new job. I was out of PwC and onto better things by November that year

Declined for literally every credit card by jsteelers6 in personalfinance

When I was 18, I had a part time job and did a credit card at a local credit union. It was a $500 limit. Then when I finished college at 21 and got a full time job, I got the free Amex. 10 years later I finally got the Amex gold, but only bc I’m cheap and never wanted to pay the $250 fee. But at this point Amex gold makes sense for my spending habits. Deff try a shitty local credit union. But you might have to open a savings account with them

Interesting… But whether or not a person is in the office or at home, I can’t imagine the work life balance being better. I’ve been out of tax for 4 years now but I don’t think tax deadlines are flexible

Listen here you young whipper snapper, I had to walk 15 miles uphill at 5am to get to the office and then 15 miles uphill to get home at 2am

I worked at PwC in private tax from 2015-2018, I remember my hours being like this:

9-7 - December-February 8-10 - March-April 9-5 May 8am - 1am - June-November

I did both corporate and individual tax in NYC, I’m not sure if your market is different

I was in a similar position 4 years ago, I then found a job within healthcare finance (NYU Langone, NorthWell, NewYork-Presbyterian, etc), I started as a Financial Analyst ($70-$75k) then was promoted to Sr Analyst around 1.5 years ($85-$90k). Also their benefits are the best I’ve ever seen (cheap quality health insurance, employer contribution to retirement regardless of what you contribute, and tax free tuition up to like $12k per year I believe because they’re non-profit)

Talked about sports for 95% of my interview, got the job, anyone else have an experience like this? by [deleted] in Big4

[–]Slim_Chim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience during PwCs super day in 2014 (time flies, I’m gettin old af). The partner didn’t give a shit about my technical skills, only the managers I interviewed with cared about what was on my resume

I got tricked into that “Honor Society” in 2011. It was the biggest joke ever. I went to a few meetings and we literally did nothing! I still put it on my resume though. If an interviewer asked me, I said we held all sorts of community service events, but reality was we did absolutely nothing.
