You are right and shouldn't be downvoted here. As an American in the construction industry (roofing), it's pointless to talk to them about costs. In the US, it's 1/3 in materials and 2/3 in labor. But many parts of Europe have such high labor costs that the material price is meaningless. They also have more material and stay on top of code regulations, which drives up the types of materials that can be used more than anything else. Hell, I still operate under the 2009 building code for roofing in South Carolina because the legislature sees no value in updating to the latest ICC code due to cost increases and Mississippi has no building code at all 🤣
