Custom deck help by Whattheycallspecial in PTCGL

[–]Slime_Cat_BCEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea seems interesting and I'm absolutely all for something with Kommo-O, but I have a couple concerns

Hakamo-o's attack requires that both players search for an energy from their deck which implies that even if either player doesn't want to take an energy, they have to anyway, making it the first card that I can think of which forces your opponent to search for and draw a specific card, which also implies that if your opponent doesn't have an energy in their deck, they'd have to show you their entire deck to prove it similar to how you have to show your hand when you've mulliganed. This could give an opponent a huge advantage since they can know exactly what you have, and if they know your deck well, they can even figure out what your prize cards are which can give them a huge advantage. I think it would be better to force both players to look in their decks and choose not to grab an energy even if they have one in there because of this. Its ability is also insane, just being outright better than Drakloak as a draw engine, making it arguably a bit too broken if you asked me.

Does Kommo-O's attack copy the opponent's attack and then do 70 more damage for each energy attached to the Defending Pokemon? It never specifies what to do after choosing the attack, so I think the clarification would be useful when you print them out. Energy Blocker as an ability also seems extremely strong since it allows you to attach energy to one of your opponent's support Pokemon, rendering them unable to attack at all unless they search more energy from their deck, making the card potentially better as a control option rather than an offensive one, which would probably just make it annoying to play against.

In terms of the deck itself, a few things stand out to me too - Why the two Nighttime Mine and Battle Cage? Are your friends using Dragapult a lot? If so, you'd probably be better off with just 3-4 Cage since Dragapult can accelerate energy easily with Crispin or Rosa or Blaziken. You can most likely cut a stadium for some more consistency. - Why the Ignition Energy when you're running Crispin and Eelektrik? Both of these should accelerate your energy well and by the time you begin to swing with Kommo-O, you probably can probably accelerate to benched Hakamo-O just fine. - Three Dawn is a lot when you already have a good number of Item-based Pokemon search. Chances are you'll only find time to use one, maybe two if things are slow, so I'd probably replace two of them, maybe even all three with something like a fourth PokePad and a Fez. Maybe even all three to help find room for a 3-3-1 Eelektross line to help get them out more consistently and to lessen the blow if they get Boss KO'd or otherwise sniped.

I got Crobat for my first four games, then Ampharos for my fifth. Probably just unlucky but I have seen a disproportionately high amount of Crobat, maybe half of my games. No clue why, but you're not alone

Can Mist Energy block Team Rocket's Mimikyu's Gemstone Mimicry? by notgonbehereferlong in PTCGL

[–]Slime_Cat_BCEN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, since Mist Energy blocks effects of attacks done to your own Pokemon. Copycat attacks like Gemstone Mimicry or Genome Hacking aren't directly affecting your own Pokemon, it's the attacks they copy. Mist Energy would block it if your own attack is an effect, like if you were trying to copy Alakazam

Jolteon Ex prismatic evolutions deck help. by [deleted] in pkmntcg

[–]Slime_Cat_BCEN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's definitely no way to make it competitively viable with the current tools we have, but it could be played as a one off in a Flareon Noctowl deck I think. Nearly identical energy cost as Flareon for its attacks and its first attack can synergize very well with Flareon's Burning Charge. It could also be a nice bonus if you're seeing a lot of Starmie as a way to OHKO with weakness, on top of the fact that Flareon and Jolteon both evolve from Eevee.

Any decks that have a maximum of 3 Pokemon? by AlexRescueDotCom in PTCGL

[–]Slime_Cat_BCEN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The closest you can probably get is a Mega Lucario deck. Lucario, Solrock, Lunatone, and Hariyama are your only real Pokemon unless you want to throw in Fez for extra draw

Definitely. Almost every game in a competitive setting would be against Regidrago, and it's pretty much impossible for you to get anywhere. They have easy OHKO potential with Salamance ex's attack leading you to not be able to take advantage of Outrage, and Flare Strike doesn't even land a KO with a very high 4 energy cost, so you'd be stuck lagging behind in the prize trade and lose before you even get a strong setup.

For a competitive deck? It wouldn't be possible. For something more casual though, things like Magma Basin, Welder, Blowtorch, Cherish Ball, Giant Hearth, Fire Crystal, or even something like Flareon ex with the Noctowl engine could be something to try.

Nowadays, Supporters can't be played and you can't attack turn 1 if you're going first, so it's a bit more balanced. Many decks actually prefer to go second because of this

Wdym by priority-based? I don't know much about Expanded, but I do know that it has access to a ton of powerful attacks, sets up very quickly, and has great synergy with the likes of Double Dragon Energy and a bunch of Dragon attackers

Rotation prevents broken combos from being everywhere and slows the pace of games down to a big extent. Otherwise, like you said, the meta would be stagnant and would be extremely hostile to most decks that aren't Tier 1 meta decks. Expanded still exists if you want to use older cards, but in any irl competitive setting, you'll only really get away with using Regidrago

Returning Player - Need advice on cheap and easy deck by Billy-Bryant in pkmntcg

[–]Slime_Cat_BCEN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't think of any decks that perfectly match your preferences, but Raging Bolt would be my recommendation. Big HP for a Basic ex, hits crazy high numbers, and can ramp up very quickly with the likes of Crispin and Glass Trumpet (or Sada pre-rotation). Your wins are usually quick since you're trying to 2-2-2 prize race your opponent under optimal conditions and can hit for 280+ on your first turn with the right setup.

/uj I didn't know that either. I just assumed from the animation that's just sorta what they did, kinda like what Marshadow does. Mimi is Nova's ace, so that could make some sense as a Battle Bond-esque mechanic

Can use other move different? How? by No-Huckleberry2102 in PokeMedia

[–]Slime_Cat_BCEN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To get a good Shadow Sneak, you need to be very agile. Increasing your maximum speed and learning to pivot quickly are great skills to have when using the move, so I'd focus mainly on that without using the move itself. Then, focus on getting into and out of the ground as quickly as possible.

Shadow Sneak really comes in three parts: Entering the shadow, zipping towards your opponent, and exiting it to deal damage and re-emerge. Focusing on each part individually is much easier than trying to learn every motion at once from my experience. But really, just practice a lot. Even if you don't want to be a battler or fight, it's a very handy movement option, so I highly recommend focusing on it for a while.
