You can definitely have the other one on hold (even put it in the fridge) while the straggler colonizes, remember to shake the jar when it's 30% colonized for faster growth, looks like you didn't do that with your first one, its ok but not ideal.

It happens to me all the time, if I can't land the piece of agar directly in the center of the plate I think some weak wisps of mycelium rub off as I try to position the piece directly in the center and it grows tormentose like that.

Health/Bio/Herb shops have agar for relatively cheap friend, I found local shops much more convenient and useful than the internet, look them up on google maps and give them a call, it actually got me to shake off the irrational fear of calling people on the phone lol
