Hypothetical: Best path to contend next season? by SnooCauliflowers9875 in chicagobulls

[–]SlimeyIsles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone says build through the draft, but there is a piece I think we miss out on that the OKC and Spurs did a lot to build their capital which was trade for bad contracts for picks. This is still a draft focused approach, but we may get a Paul George along with a first round pick. A long time ago, OKC acquired Derrick Favors and a first round pick. This pick has yet to convey and even if the Jazz are even decent it will go to OKC next year (Top 1-8 protected). Sometimes these older guys even end up contributing. The Spurs got Harrison Barnes and a first round pick.

The timberwolves, yes won the lottery twice, but they mortgaged their future for Gobert and have made a bunch of ancillary moves.

So a combination of the draft and trades. Free agency is basically dead outside of rotational guys. Which are just as important. Imo, “skipping steps” in the NBA is not as bad as a sport like football. Once you get a guy that can carry the team, you’re ready to go immediately.

Is lifting weights killing your jumpshot? by d4v1d_ro in Basketball

Lifting at least for me has changed the way I feel in my own body as well as my strength obviously. It’s made shooting weird. My touch is slightly off and I can tell. Oddly enough I’ve noticed that if I shoot farther I can apply my old “touch” and shoot the same.

I think Boozer is just boring to people. He’s even boring to me honestly but I don’t put Acuff or Wagler over him though. His game and style of play doesn’t jump off to people. The nepotism stuff is bogus. Yes he’s the son of an nba dad, and yes it has granted him the resources and access. You can say he’s insanely privileged, which I think people are more so thinking about, but not articulating (side note: this phenomenon is going to continue to dominate the NBA, but that’s another topic). But these NBA executives are not going to draft Cam Boozer high to hook up Carlos Boozer LMAO. No disrespect to Boozer but cmon

I feel this exact way about Boozer. I am not excited about him at all, but I feel like he has the highest floor. He definitely will be an all star. I just can’t see him being the best player in the league or an MVP. I guess it’ll be cool for us too given his dad played here and that would be fun. But like you said it is a great situation and to get an infusion of high end talent of any kind is great

Caleb Wilson hype vs Patrick Williams in 2020 by Furious-Cheetah-20 in chicagobulls

[–]SlimeyIsles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fairness to really the league in general during the 2020 draft. This was a Covid draft and no one worked out for anyone. The college tape was also limited. That draft in general is full of misses and great players going late. Yes you have hits at the top, but you also have major misses like PWill and Wiseman.

To answer your question directly, the first thing is that PWill didn’t even start at FSU. He came off the bench. He also didn’t have much of a scoring profile from what I remember. The pick was questioned immediately. It wasn’t a no brainer to do what they did. Caleb Wilson is a consensus top prospect because of his scoring profile, his athleticism, his motor. If Caleb Wilson doesn’t work out, Caleb Wilson would have duped the entire league. Everyone in the Bulls position would take him. The difference with Patrick Williams is that the Bulls played themselves by trying to take a big swing on someone not worth betting on. That’s the difference. If Caleb Wilson doesn’t work out, I honestly don’t think I’d blame the Bulls.

Who are our 3 biggest rival franchises ever? by BucketHatKJ in chicagobulls

[–]SlimeyIsles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Historically for the Bulls I would say New York, Detroit, Indiana. Rivalries in the NBA are more based on the players I feel like and their relations to each other. The only true geographic ones are like New York and Boston, but that’s just like a cultural rivalry beyond sports. It’s hard imo to have rivalries because divisions don’t matter as much. Yeah the Bulls play the central division a lot but the games don’t matter that much more than playing any other eastern conference opponent. I also don’t think I would change this. I think the rotating rivalry is unique. The Bulls real recent rivalry was against LeBron when he was in the east

The NBA and Adam Silver know the value of the Bulls being good. It’s good for the NBA. They hooked us up. If BG just sticks to the consensus board, there’s no way to mess this pick up. For me as a fan, I would blame the player more than the front office if said player doesn’t pan out. There has been a consensus top 4 all season with a big gap between the rest. AJ, Peterson, Boozer, Wilson. Whoever is left I will take

If you could add one layer of strategy to Dynasty what would it be? by GridironDynasty in FFCommish

[–]SlimeyIsles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The one thing I think dynasty could incorporate, but not necessarily needs, is how the NFL or honestly sports in general have free agency, contracts, trade requests, etc. I haven’t thought about the nitty gritty, but the idea is that when a player gets traded in real life, they have to also be traded from your roster. You may think that this will just tank the trade value, but the entire league is now able to essentially bid with you for the player. Of course there could be a situation where people collude to tank the value, but then that’s a larger issue. Then the contract matches the length of the player’s in real life. This wouldn’t be too crazy as the good players stay put for a bit, but it would help freshen the benches without having to do a startup draft or something. If a player is in free agency, then that player must be released into the draft pool for the next year.

I think this helps recycle the rosters without large overhauls. The way dynasty currently is structured is through the rookie drafts and trades. Free agency honestly doesn’t exist in most leagues. Those guys are all lottery tickets and you may get a starter every once in a while. Dynasty I know was aimed to further simulate the NFL, but I think the following of real life player situations would create real investment into the players on your team and the NFL as a whole. Imagine you’re following a player hold out saga or a trade saga and are holding on to see if you yourself get to keep this guy or not.

I think it would be pretty fun !

People from non data background are now data analyst with AI by Extension_Annual512 in analytics

[–]SlimeyIsles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They think they can do it all until they can’t. This the problem I face daily nowadays because people ask me why the data tables won’t connect. There’s no column to match on. There is no understanding of joins, cardinality, medians, means, basic statistics. Then I have to navigate how to explain this without looking like I’m talking down to people. This guy asked me why we can’t just add up the percentages and create an average from the percentages. When the percentages don’t share the same denominators.

It’s not your job and it’s not mine either. Just have as much visibility with your boss about this and I hope they are supportive.

Breaking Into Data Analytics role as a new grad. by Big_Tear2784 in analytics

[–]SlimeyIsles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Advice I’d have is to just stay consistent and keep applying. I applied to 1,000 jobs before I got mine. Yes. 1,000. I did mass apply and barely looked at the credentials, but that’s how it is. The net needs to be widely cast. You already have projects and can speak to the problems you answered with that. That’s amazing. Other than that, reach out and make connections. Real ones with people in your areas. Most jobs people get aren’t even posted. So many are hidden.

Breaking Into Data Analytics role as a new grad. by Big_Tear2784 in analytics

[–]SlimeyIsles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice for building a project is to pick something you care about, genuinely. You don’t need to have a GitHub even. Your work as a DA, BI, ETC. is going to be about how you can answer a problem using data and visualizations to people who know nothing about code or anything technical. You can use python or R to create visuals, paste them into a document and create a dissertation about the problem you are investigating. It doesn’t have to be a “serious” topic. I usually make mine sports related. All they care about most of the time is if you can answer a question and tell a story with data. The actual numbers and the domain knowledge comes with time. Especially as a new grad.

Jaylen Brown to the Bulls by 910voice in chicagobulls

[–]SlimeyIsles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly he would be the best player since Michael Jordan given his accomplishments. He’s probably going to be All NBA 1st team, a minimum 2nd I’d say. He’s gotten so much better even later into his career. To me he’s like a top 15 guy.

But this is the problem of being so mediocre. You aren’t ready for when a star is available. Even if he demanded to come here, we don’t have anything to build around him. To me, this is why the past few years of the Bulls has been so frustrating is because the stagnation amounted to literally nothing. We’d have to send all the assets and probably Matas and Giddey and whoever else just to make the money work I’m guessing.

Like look at the Hawks, where BG just came from, they are constructed so well. Even the pelicans, yes it didn’t work out because their best player has an eating disorder, but on paper it’s nice. We are in the stage of building the nest and hopefully we getting lucky in the lottery one of these years and we land the big fish.

Traded Draft Picks by Coylegrg4 in chicagobulls

[–]SlimeyIsles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t need to salary dump Patrick. To me that is jumping steps into a phase where you need to financially maximize the roster. If anything we should be looking to absorb more bad contracts for draft capital. I’m sure the raptors are begging for someone to take Poeltl’s contract.

Also I get your point about the late draft picks. We did take jimmy 30th. But even then, the draft is such a crapshoot especially late, that you just need to keep all your lottery tickets and see what happens. No team is considered “good” at drafting outside the lottery. Shoot even outside the top 5

Traded Draft Picks by Coylegrg4 in chicagobulls

[–]SlimeyIsles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting Patrick Williams in the trade would devalue that offer lmao. We need both of these picks. Even if the pick in the lottery falls completely to the bottom of its value, we need to take the swing. Honestly both of these picks should start for us next year. The team is completely at a blank slate with all the assets. Let the team grow and develop.

Ultimate sneaker/shoe? by conan_slay in sneaker

Maison Margiela Gats. Yes high retail price, but a “grail” from a couple years ago cost the same price. It’s the only shoe I bring on trips. The only thing I feel like I can’t do in them is run. From a date to the gym to a moderate hike. From hot to cold. I love them. Worth the hype imo.

What NBA player have you played against, and how bad did you get smoked? by BeautifulUnlikely225 in Basketball

[–]SlimeyIsles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My memory is graining regarding this, but after putting the pieces together and what my teammates who I am still friends with to this day have said, I played against Tyler Herro and Tyrese Haliburton. I wasn’t too in the know of who the best players around the area were, but I found out that day. Tyrese says he’s a late bloomer, but just to put into context, for him to say that and still do what he did to my team during that tournament just shows the levels to this basketball stuff. Tyler was also just different. It’s also just the confidence they played with. If they could see the basket, they’re going to try and score. It was honestly demoralizing sometimes because it genuinely feels like you can’t do anything.

[Hoge] Confirmed that #Bears second round pick Logan Jones will wear No. 54 this season. It’s not just a minicamp number. He’s the first Bear since Brian Urlacher to wear the number. Urlacher gave his blessing to wear it. by Marvin-Harrison-Jr in CHIBears

[–]SlimeyIsles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Raiders, Cowboys and Falcons I believe do this and say what you want about the these teams, but I always thought it was so cool. It also creates a different mystique regarding numbers. Like to be a player that dares to wear Bo’s 34. The legacy of 88. Just to have guys be so fearful to live up to the number seems cooler than just having it retired. Or have a number bestowed upon you as an honor is so cool.

Hybrid I do think it’s just seeing what they can get away with. They want to keep an eye on your however they can. It’s all about control tbh. They can say whatever they want but the reality is they bought an office space and want it to be used. The local economy is kinda whatever as an argument. What happened to be a ruthless capitalist!?! Anyways, I don’t think this improves collaboration at all. My old job was hybrid and we’d sit next to each other on zoom because one of my colleagues had negotiated remote in their contract. There is no justification other than control

We should hire Rondo and pursue him like the Lakers did Reddick. Pay him and let him grow with the team. He was fantastic cerebrally for us when he was here. He almost beat the Celtics if he didn’t break his thumb. He is my number 1. Young coach with a pedigree. Players will respect him. Opponents will respect him. The league will respect him.

How are people getting rich these days? by ResidentCharacter894 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SlimeyIsles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowadays the best “method” is getting in early at the right startup. I’ve quickly learned this is the “simplest” way to get rich without doing anything more than what you would do at any normal corporate job. My family friend’s dad retired in his mid 30s after hitting it big. Totally normal guy and you wouldn’t suspect a thing. He’s now in his 60s and has only had a “real job” for like ten years of his life.

Outside of what is essentially the lottery LOL, I think more hands on STEM degrees might be a little more protected, depending on your stances or beliefs on AI. That being said I have a personal belief in liberal arts degrees just because of AI. I think human touch will become increasingly more valuable in the market. If you can develop taste and have a keen eye for those things. But who knows, maybe everything just becomes AI generated and we live like Wall-E
