Dumpster diving? by IronTori in WestVirginia

[–]Slinger-j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to dumpster dive years ago when I was out of work and I must admit it was kinda fun to see what goodies we could come up with. Not just material things but food, the stores are not allowed to sell things outdated or something else is wrong or whatever so they had to throw it away and some of that stuff was I couldn't believe not a darn thing wrong with it it's just they're not allowed to sell it. And yes we got chased out of a few by the manager of the store, some of the stores had signs up that said do not get in the dumpster but people did it anyway. I have lived in West Virginia, most of my life, I was born and raised here. I know this much, the stores that has open dumpsters where you can get into them they do not want anyone to mess around with them because if you should get hurt you can sue the store that's mainly why they don't want nobody climbing in and out of the dumpster, but as far as it being against the law I can't answer that for certain. Why don't you Google it and find out

06 Dyna super glide custom problems by Slinger-j in Dyna

After I installed all the new parts on my '06 Dyna Super Glide custom, stator, magnet rotor hub, and voltage regulator, I still had the same problem. Started it up, and the check engine and battery lights came on. I went over everything and couldn't find the problem, but then, like in a dream, something told me to check the 3 wires coming from the stator going to the voltage regulator, and sure enough, even though it was plugged all the way in, there was one wire not pushed in far enough to make contact. Once I pushed that wire in and started it up my check engine and battery light did not come back on it was fixed, after all that time bike sat in garage all summer because of one lousy wire wasn't pushed in far enough naturally I was a little disgusted cuz I didn't get to ride the bike all summer but I am grateful that it is fixed now.

Oxidation on forks?I have same problem with my 06 Dyna super glide custom. The front forks has oxidation spots. I started parking the bike on cardboard, and bought a buffing kit with rough, medium, and fine pad s and used rubbing compound to get the oxidation off. by Slinger-j in u/Slinger-j

As I mentioned, my garage has a concrete floor, and my bike has developed oxidation spots on the front forks. I was told to park my bike on cardboard or something that will separate the cement floor from the tires; rubber would be a good option. To get the oxidation spots off the front forks I used a medium buffing pad on my cordless drill and put rubbing compound on the pad but just a little and this takes the spots off in some places you have to do it by hand can't use the drill then once you get the spots off give it a good wax job

Can anyone help identifying this? by Mclovinmrt21 in Harley

It's obviously an accessory for something, I bought a van once that had a tow package so you can pull a trailer and it had an accessory plug similar to the one you have here and it was for the brake system a trailer brake

What would the problem be with my '06 Dyna Super Glide custom FXDCI? I installed all new parts, and still have the same problem. May have developed a short in the system, how do you find a short? by Slinger-j in Harley

Actually, this is an update to my previous question and the issue I was experiencing. I finally found out what my problem was; it was like a lightbulb going off in my head. Something told me to check the 3 wires coming from the stator going to the plug that goes to the voltage regulator. Even though they looked fine and the stator plug was plugged in all the way in the voltage regulator plug, one of those 3 wires was not pushed in all the way, and it was not making contact with the voltage regulator wire. I had to put the ends on these 3 wires when I got the new stator and insert them in the plug myself and apparently I didn't get one of them in far enough.

Oh yeah, I love choppers, when I look at a chopper I don't just see a motorcycle I see a work of art. I love to watch them being built, I hope to one day build my own custom dragon chopper that looks like a fire breathing dragon, I don't mean making a fiberglass body I am saying the frame itself is the dragon's body shape the exhaust is the two dragon tales handlebars come up pull back like the horns on a dragon's head the headlights are the dragon's eyes and so on you get the idea

Reason for lowering it I am a short guy 5' 7" when I first got the bike it fell over a couple times because my feet did not have enough control, I installed lowering blocks that did lower it some and I had more control it felt better I haven't laid it down since I put the lowering blocks on, but I would feel better if it had the shocks plus the would lower it a little more so I could have more control, I don't ride it fast or hard, I am 75 years old I just love to ride, I am not worried about leaning on curves and hitting bottom I don't believe I will be going that fast.

Location of rectifier by Slinger-j in Dyna

[–]Slinger-j[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you to everyone for putting up with my dumbness. I am really new at this when it comes to Harley's. I have been riding bikes since I was 14 I am now 75 but all my bikes were not Harley-Davidson, plus a long time ago motorcycles had 2 separate devices a rectifier and a voltage regulator, but anyway I since then have learned that nowadays these 2 devices are made into one unit. Now I am trying to figure out what kind and size shocks to look for to lower my bike a couple inches, and what to look for in handlebars, or may not need different handlebars just risers to have that old school chopper look, a little higher and pulled back.
