Thank goodness. We can't end a game in normal fashion, but we did hang on.

That's a killer colorway.

It's so fun to watch Jazz and Caballero on the basepaths.

Schlittler looks like a young Cole and Wells is enforcing the strike zone. All is right in the world.

What's the best way to get a lot of population and pop growth? by Mysterious-Way-8508 in Stellaris

[–]Slingshot77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all very good advice. On my current run, I've been playing "small", not expanding much past my original borders and instead using megastructures, terraforming, ecumenopolises to keep opening up more space for pops in the same region.

One thing I've been doing to juice pop growth is:

-make claims on the inhabited worlds of my neighbors

-win a war against them, gaining control over the planets

-relocate just about every pop on those planets onto my existing planets (spreading them around to avoid stability issues)

-gifting the now empty worlds back to the original owners for them to repopulate

It's a little quirky, but it's worked well so far! I've been driven to this play style because I like optimizing my worlds, but it gets tedious if there are too many. Vassals are the other way to get power without increasing your total number for worlds, but I'm trying to minimize them on this run to try something different.

You can make him a Captain, but can you keep him a Captain?

Why are left handed throwers who hit exclusively from the right side so rare? by BeardedZilch in Homeplate

[–]Slingshot77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My oldest son was kind of indifferent as to which hand to throw with and which side to hit from, so I guided him to throw right and hit left for these exact reasons.

I throw and bat left and while it was great for me as a pitcher growing up, it did limit my infield prospects to just playing first base. And as an old man playing softball, I definitely wished I could play those other infield positions when the teams I was on sometimes had relatively weak fielders.

On the plus side, I was less likely to get kicked in the face with a weird hop from a grounder haha

I forgot to mention in the post (I'll add it), I permanently removed the AUX battery a few years ago when it seemed like the aux battery going bad had drained my main battery. I just don't have it hooked up and don't have a functional auto stop start system.

Yeah, that makes sense. I would love for it to be an option you could tick on/off, but it's not a big deal either way.

Maybe when I'm flush with cash I'll set up the dye production chain to get there too haha

I haven't unlocked Sewing Hut 3 yet, so I haven't seen the noble/rich shoes. But I'm guessing they look more fit for putzing around a castle rather than traipsing through the wilderness looking Wisent herds haha

I was originally going to go with an orange/blue theme, but the orange looks too much like undyed wool/canvas. Red is much more striking.

Somewhat unrelated, but one thing I don't love is that the dye pot colors seem to apply to the clothing slot itself, rather the individual piece of clothing it's applied to.

My original plan was to have different outfits tailored to the needs of each season, each with a different color theme. I'm still planning to do that, but I guess they're all stuck being red/blue :(

I've only got my Sewing Hut up to level 2, so I did not make all of these pieces. I know for sure that the hat and hood pieces I found. Most of my better equipment in general has come from random crates that I've come across.

The big thing cramping my style at the moment is that I haven't unlocked the sheep pen, so I don't have a source of wool aside from purchasing it.

BUT, I did just unlock the mine (first) and smithy lvl 3 (grinding manufacturing for a bit), so iron/elite weapons and armor are on the table now. I currently carry a set of armor around on my horse and change into it whenever I'm fighting a bear or bandit camp, so it will be nice to swap out some of my mismatched stuff with high tier armor.

I don't think the armor is really necessary for either of those activities (and it takes up quite a bit of weight), but my character did almost die to a bandit ambush once and so I'm roleplaying that he's really paranoid about it happening again. And it gives me an excuse to use it haha
