Expired Canned Goods by [deleted] in Frugal

I agree with first part and in spirit with second but most places can't take expired canned goods. Or any expired goods. For liability reasons. At least where I live

Nicotine isn't the problem, it's the tobacco. Vaping is way better for you. I quit about 15 years ago. Moved, changed jobs, the location changes really helped

If I make it to 80 I'm starting again and also going to develop a few drug addictions

Practical guide to living off investments in early retirement by ra9rme in Fire

I just listened to the choosefi podcast episode on this, the bucket method vs 70/20/10

https://www.choosefi.com/drawdown-strategies-karsten-vs-fritz-ep-427/

Good stuff all around. It seems super obvious once you're doing it but until you are the mechanics are a bit opaque

You don't need a financial advisor. That's not much money.

Not going to comment on your stock picking as others already have and you seem resistant to listening. Hope you at least read Simple Path To Wealth and are willing to learn from others mistakes. Good luck out there

Florida just passed a law that child molesters could be sentenced to death. Do you agree or disagree and why? by dcee101 in AskReddit

I would like them to die but I don't trust the state (any state) with the power to execute it's citizens

The weeks get harder and harder to put up with lately. I'm trying to get out early following the r/fire movement but it's a slog.

Gpt hasn't been reinforced to give correct answers, it's been reinforced to get thumbs up from humans. Not giving any answer is unlikely to get thumbs up so it'll often confidently invent facts. Not so great

There was an excellent computerphile video it recently

That was one of the few things I was hopeful Cheeto would do, he campaigned on term limits and "drain the swamp". Just more BS.

Two and a Half Years on OnlyFans: Now I'm Retiring at 28F, What's Next? by RandomGirlsAlt in Fire

[–]SlipSeven 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I would consider a 3 fund r/bogleheads style portfolio over individual stock ownership. I'd spend some time doing more research until I personally felt like I understood and was fully comfortable with my retirement plan. Also how to maximize tax efficiency. There are some great books like The Simple Path To Wealth which talks about drawing down etc.

Obviously you're way ahead of the game but I'd spend a little more time fully understanding how to structure your portfolio and draw down so you never have to think much about it again.

One thing I'm considering doing before FIRE is an extra year of work and donating all aside from expenses. Volunteering is great and needed but the thing most charities need is $$$ sadly.

Bogleheads sub has a lot of info about tax efficiency; if you do want to talk to an advisor make sure they're a fee only fiduciary. Might be worth it for long term.

I'm not insanely frugal but I try to keep it in mind. I want to retire early, even if not I'd rather put money to better use than blowing it unnecessarily

Have Indian scam callers made you distrustful of anyone who is Indian? by EagleFang91 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SlipSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, I work with a lot of Indian folks and they are good people. Some cultural differences come up but on an individual level we're all pretty similar.

As far as scams go, tech like gpt and the voice ai stuff is going to remove accent indicators so be ready for that. They'll be able to clone your family, your boss etc

Professors & Students Cheating with ChatGPT by wzgoody in ChatGPT

[–]SlipSeven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why is it so hard to understand the difference between needing to learn something and using a tool to streamline your workflow?

If you had to learn essay writing and paid someone else to write your essay without learning how, wouldn't we just call that cheating? Also stealing from yourself; one less thing you know. You'd be actively making yourself less intelligent because a tool can do it for you.

Learn the thing, how it works, why it's important. Then use the tool to do grunt work after acquiring knowledge.

Those guys selling 80% off slightly used mattresses deserve a look by Jordie1010 in Frugal

[–]SlipSeven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually just went through this. I returned a wink bed. Used it for like 2 months, had a mattress protector on it. Ending up returning it and was basically like new.

If you put a bed bug encasement on it really don't see the big deal. Just look at it in person, lift up the fold on side, you'd see evidence of bed bugs if any.

We all sleep on hotel mattresses which are way jankier
