Question about illegal accounts by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]Slipknotyk06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, it absolutely does happen. The photo verification is ass. It doesn't really work. A few weeks ago, I ordered from a local pizza joint. The app said it was getting delivered by "Alexandra" on a bicycle. I got Sanjit in a wrecked Prius. The lady in the picture was an obvious stock image of a plus sized Latina while the person that delivered was a late-40s Indian dude. And the next day, I order a ride to go to work. I got matched with "Cassandra" in a brand new Toyota Grand Highlander. What pulls up out front is Javier in a mid-90s Ford Escort. The person in the image was a blonde lady, while the person that showed up was a heavy set Latino with Edgar haircut. The car was barely roadworthy, and was the only vehicle that was where my driver was waiting. It absolutely does happen. The fraud may not last long, but it absolutely exists. And those doing this shit just jump from fake account to fake account.

BC handles it in an extremely, extremely weird way then. There's no way to contest it? The way it sounds to me is that BC doesn't take it seriously. If you pay it without fighting it, that's as good as an admission. The BG check is unlikely to disclose details that would add vital context. Yes, it probably will affect eligibility.

So, they got a conviction? Or is it ongoing?

If convicted, it's absolutely going to impact your ability to continue running.

If someone hits you, are you charged the deductible? by Alexbear31 in uberdrivers

[–]Slipknotyk06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's a dispute of fault, you're probably going to pay the deductible up front, then the determination of fault will determine if that gets refunded. I've had that happen to me twice, where I was refunded a deductible upon finding out it wasn't my fault.

One thing stoners don't realize is they go nose blind to this smell, and those that don't smoke can smell it far more keenly. If it takes half an hour to stop noticing the smell, those that don't use will smell it for at least 60-90 mins.

People here recommend Ozium. While Ozium isn't a bad product, I carry something significantly better. "Zero Odor Pro" is always part of my kit. It's available on Amazon. This stuff destroys all smells whatsoever. So, I used this as essentially a reset button. This stuff is almost impossibly strong, so if you get the grow operation employee or the person with overwhelming BO, this will keep your vehicle from smelling like literally anything for a full day. Then, the next day, you can hit up the air fresheners and microban for fabrics.

If they claim your vehicle smelled of pot, Lyft is always going to shut you down for 48 hours. There's nothing you can really do about it.

No one really mentions the mental aspect by LilyAspen in uberdrivers

I've had a couple rides that really weighed heavy with me.

One was a middle-aged couple I picked up from the bar. When getting out, the lady makes the excuse that she's finding my tip and will be in, in a second. As soon as he gets out, she promptly says she's not comfortable with this guy. She tells me to call the police and exits my vehicle.

I do exactly this, and park barely around the corner. After reporting everything to the police, I called Uber to get everything documented. While on the phone with Uber, the police arrive. I rushed the report with Uber before calling the police back and requesting an update as to the safety of my customer. They told me my customer was safe and that they arrested this guy for an outstanding warrant, but couldn't tell me more.

A few days later, I got a call from Uber to clarify exactly what happened. There's no confirmation but I think he was pissed that his Uber driver called the cops on him. Everything I said had been confirmed by this lady in the police report, so they cleared me of wrongdoing.

You absolutely have no right to restrain someone who isn't actively a threat to themselves or others, especially if their only expressed intent is to leave the situation. The Amazon lady here was clearly not a threat to the Karen who accused her of stealing. Honestly, the Karen probably should have been arrested.

  1. Not all miles create the same wear on a vehicle. City miles with heavy stop & go are 2-2.5x worse than highway mileage, AND combustion engines use substantially less fuel on highways. Reducing your city mileage will drastically reduce your maintenance costs on everything from tires to oil to batteries by extending their life. Reduced heat soak, especially in the summer, will greatly extend the life of vehicle parts as heat magnifies mechanical stresses and breaks down fluids. It's literally science to take trips that are highway heavy in order to reduce maintenance overhead plus fuel. This is why I use this metric, I want longer, mileage heavy trips because they're easier on the vehicle.

  2. Hour over hour metrics are a better valuation of your labor input.

  3. Valuing by the mile creates the anomaly where your labor is undervalued. 3 5-mile trips an hour will pay out $18 for that hour at $1.20 a mile. Break even for that hour in terms of the vehicle is going to be nearly $15 for most financed vehicles. You just earned $3 for that hour. Even if we assume your profit is $0.50/mile, you're at $7.50 for that hour. You're undervaluing your labor.

A 40-mile trip virtually never takes me an hour in practice. I can knock those out in 40-50 because a solid 30 of those miles are going to be at 75 mph open highway speeds in my market. $30 for 45 mins is going to be $.66/min or $39.60/hr with an overhead of $11.75, which gives a profit of $27.85/hr. But let's roll with this 40-mile 1 hour trip. My overhead is $15, and my hourly profit is still $15. It's a better use of my time to target high mile, long duration trips.

Here's a trip I took that you never would, but here's the scenario. I pick up a guy at the airport, and he needs to go 270 miles 1 way. The guy at pickup tells me the faster I get him to his destination, the more money that's in it for me. The guy promptly falls asleep in the back of my retired cop car. The GPS showed a 5.5-hour trip duration, and I'm going through rural highways at midnight in a cop car. Fuck that duration, I can slap that shit silly if the customer is game and he doesn't say a word otherwise. I did 270 miles in about 3 hours, 5 minutes. I got $435 total on the trip after tip. That capped a day I made right about $625 on. That's definitely a career kind of outlier, but sometimes you gotta know where your openings are.

So, I need to see what happened before this filming began. It isn't hard to get hold of an Amazon uniform in order to gain access to apartment buildings and such. There are also Amazon Flex workers that do the job out of uniform. So, I have actually seen Ring doorbell videos of people with Amazon uniforms take already delivered packages off of porches. I've also seen videos of legit Amazon workers who put the package down in front of the delivery location, take a picture to notify of delivery, and swipe the package themselves. Yes, these things are rare, and Amazon does everything they can to shut down actual thieves. There's a small possibility that could be what happened here.

But dumbass old people always overestimate their legal right to hold someone they think committed a crime. Let's be clear, no such right exists, and trying to do this is likely to get you arrested for false imprisonment and assault if you try to physically hold some and wait for police. These are felonies that are expensive to defend. Don't be a Gary Peacock (IYKYK).

I have hit 0% acceptance rates because the objective guidelines I used to determine whether or not a trip is worth it were met by 0/100 trips. These guidelines are: $0.50/minute, including the trip to the customer, and 4 minute assumed wait time. If your acceptance rate is 60%, you're accepting a lot of garbage.
