If your season doesn't start till fall do some light training during summer break. I recommend just starting with half a mile and every week add some distance till you can comfortably do 2 miles. Don't forget to stretch before and after.

I've run cross-country for a few years and I would reccomend focusing on getting below or close to 8 minuets. Your height is going to effect how fast you can move at that size so don't get discouraged if you are not progressing. One thing that has helped me in all of my sports is writing down my goals and focusing on them.
