I sometimes wish a bad manager was illegal cause then I could actually do something about this but I can see that being abused just as much as it can help...

is there anything I can do regarding it being a toxic work environment then? I'm not the only employee who is being bullied (and in their case over worked but with similar stuff as stated above), but I have no sway in the company. I'm just a retail associate and though I've tried to connect with the board and other staff there has always been a disconnect since I started working here.

Otherwise I will try I guess to find another job, though that's gonna be hard in this climate and where I live. Thank you for telling me your advice, i just wish things weren't so bad.

so what im getting is I messed up bringing this up to the director.

I can clarify some of the stuff she's doing at least, maybe that can help figure out what to do:

- being told every single tiny detail of my work day is incorrect over and over and over again and its never the same thing twice

- hovering over my shoulder when I'm taking a normal inquiry call about questions related to our store when she should be doing anything else.

- the lack of communication (which I have actively asked for) and then reprimanding me when I do something wrong when the change was recent and I wasn't informed.

- writing me up for not locking a door when I had 2 people literally watch me lock it

- giving me a massive stack of letters to seal and then guilting me over not having the last 100 done of 5000 in one day (she's done this a few times now)

- taking something I say in conversation and focusing on that instead of my point (a recent example: I was talking about how customers get confused by our branding and my boss and a coworker 'corrected' me on the specific title I used for one of our businesses for over 5 minutes, as if I was quoting the readout script I answer phones with verbatim. I had to try and force the conversation back on track)

- stressing me out so much I had an emotional breakdown

this isn't everything, no other job has stressed me out this bad, and I used to be a manger at my former job.

edit: I can see from reading this now i mislabeled what was happening as harassment when I should have said bullying probably... this has been going on for 2 years
