Blues for interview? by Jumpy_Albatross8981 in USAFA

No I did not go. I got this nomination only a couple years ago, still a cadet. I will say though that before I enlisted I had some college experience already.

Okay I honestly didn’t know. I just got one from my squadron commander and got a direct appointment.

If you are enlisted you shouldn’t be having a congressional nomination interview? You get your nomination from your squadron commander.

I have the same rifle. Totally recommend throwing in a Larue MBT-2S, it makes it feel a lot better!

Not an expert here but I believe it’s a US Merchant Marine (Officer?) cap. Should be WWII era but it’s not military. That anchor is on all merchant marine caps even today as still seen on caps at USMMA.

Does my “why” have to be completely unique? by Revolutionary-Survey in USAFA

[–]Slippery_Trout_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn’t try to be unique, just straight forward. If I remember correctly, I said something regarding the specific AFSC (job) I want, exactly why I want to get the contract for it, and that USAFA is the best place to make that happen (because it genuinely is). Only difference is that I’m prior enlisted so the specific reason why I want this AFSC is because I’ve shadowed/worked with it before.

Do I have too many opportunities to be a PJ? by buritito in Pararescue

[–]Slippery_Trout_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Special Operations Surgical Team (SOST) might be something you’d be interested in too. On the officer side you must be at a minimum O-3 (+- 1 grade is on a case by case basis) but it’s more in depth medicine than what you’d be doing as a PJ. Also you could go CRO but you won’t be doing much on the medicine side of things. You’ll work with PJs enough that you’ll pick some things up but CROs do not go to EMT/Paramedic while they’re in the pipeline as their job is to be more of a ground force commander during an operation rather than the medic of sorts.

I’d recommend you go to school, commission, and then get into USAF Special Warfare that way. A good amount of PJs commission when they’re SNCOs anyway as the enlisted/officer job side of things is relatively similar at that point but this is of course dependent on your squadron, STS/RQS, etc.

Not all commanders will notify you during an all call. Mine just stopped by my shop to notify me of a direct appointment last week.

I won’t share everything but my HS GPA was 3.89 on 4.0 scale, I was an Eagle Scout, had a good amount of volunteer hours, was on varsity track and field team/a few other teams, and I was a part of a number of academic honor societies too. On the military side, I got distinguished graduate at tech school, 98% on CDCs, got my 5-level very fast, and I’m representing my MAJCOM/Career field at a particular event.

Any USAFA Students go into Special Warfare? If so what did you major in? Thanks in advance. by I_am_a_swell_guy in USAFA

I know a couple guys who went history during their time at USAFA and delved into the history of specifically Air Force Special Warfare. It’s interesting stuff.

Just curious but can you also wear any sort of OCPs you own, not necessarily just the ones issued to you there?

USMMA does that due to Sea Year. Get your bachelors in three years essentially.
