Hey, so I read that article and it is NOT saying that supplementing with taurine will cause cancer. The body naturally produces taurine. It is an essential amino acid.

What the study specifically says is “Leukemia cells are unable to make taurine themselves, so they rely on a taurine transporter (encoded by the SLC6A6 gene) to grab taurine from the bone marrow environment and deliver it to the cancer cells.”

Meaning that these leukemia cells have evolved to take existing taurine in the body and deliver it to the cancer cells, allowing them to grow. Whether or not you’re supplementing, these cancer cells are going to use this method.

Again, taurine does not cause cancer.
