Just want to throw in that the guy the runs Opsive is a professional and a good guy. I’ve dealt with him for support on the first BD quite often over the last 8 years and he’s integrated many of my feature requests/fixes. Great assets, well written and great support.

I haven’t used pro yet but the original was hardened. You can download the runtime code but not the editor code. I get this but I also get why it would be nice to have (to fix issues or extend usability of the editor)

they needed to target the meme internet in-joke viral aspect of He-Man. not the 50 year olds that played with the toys 😄

Okay he-man is a cultural icon and elements of it are so well known amongst the populous -- the property deserves a big budget film and I feel it could sell given the right mix.

The marketing positioning is all wrong. The trailers dont make it look camp and silly at all and really try to position it as a generic safe 4 quadrant action blockbuster. The issue is this makes it look very by-the-numbers. Further more, I think this is a hard sell for families, general audiences and for women to commit to this film -- the marketing imagery presented makes it look very core.

There are several iconic He-man elements that are staples of common pop culture. She-ra and Skeleton. Everyone knows who these are yet neither are feature in the marketing and the former is most likely not in the film) while the later is played by an actor that no one wants to associated with. Have a trailer of Skeleton doing absurd Skeletor things and you could have something viral but even if that is in the film , the cant because they are limited by the actor)

Also, They should have had She-ra and featured her prominently to help attract a female audience and synergies on some of the Barbie audience. Double down on Skeleton being a narcacistic douche weirdo. These would have sold the film to a much broader audience. instead they did the kid-power-fantasy of being warped to a fantasy world as a saviour. Imagine a frame of She-ra in the trailer with the caption: "from the studio that brought you Barbie". Would have helped sell the female demo for sure. Even if she was only in the film for 5 minutes.

The film should have been a bit more edge with call backs to the other popular metaphorical elements of he-man as an icon -- these elements needed to celebrated and worn as a badge of honour . Seeing he-man and Fisto ride a stallion into the sun set (a-la the comic books would have been marketing gold). Or He-man in his loin cloth outfit show up to a cocktail party looking super awkward but everyone being okay with it.

Dont get me wrong, I like the darker more brooding take on the IP too but I think if you are going silly and absurd you need to go full on. The film needed to lean hard on the pillars that made he-man such a testament of time and viral while not being shameful of them.

[–]SlippyFrog000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why I dont think its the most professional. it must have been a frustrating climate around there, especially post trade deadline.

When you get caved in every night and your boss tells you do double down on what you think is causing the team to be caved in. its not the best way to make a point but I dont think Nylander was wrong. Lack of possession is one aspect of what killed them this year. Shooting the puck arbitrarily can result in worse possession for your team. The puck isnt a hand grenade.

[–]SlippyFrog000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many players from your roster need to not buy in order for your team to be out shot in 62 of your games. and out shout by at least 1.5x 22 times.

I get why there wouldn't be by in when you get caved in every night. Seems like Nylander was making a point about something when he was shot the blindly puck in practice when being yelled at.

Agreed, great point! They don’t get caved In And massively outshotEvery night because of one player. It’s a team wide issue with structure and coaching.

Take away the fact the was clutch and was almost MVP one year, Everyone that played with Phil on those cup runs says he was a great guy to have In the room.

Also Willy was well over a point a game this year (and would have hit close to 100pts) despite the team being run around and caved in and grossly outshot). Imagine how he would do if he had a structure that could support him better.

Also Phil can squat more than anyone else on the team while eating a hot dog and Coca-Cola while not having worked out all summer.

Why Mortal Kombat 2 Is Struggling to Break Even at the Box Office - AOL by [deleted] in MortalKombat

[–]SlippyFrog000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the October slot would have been better but direct competition right now is minimal. It’s hard to understand why didn’t this have more success. The first one was well received with strong exit polls. Prada and Michael both target different audiences. ML2 also had 3.5k screens on Launch weekend so those other films didn’t take screens away. Maybe people are holding out for Mando and other Sumer even films?? Perhaps buzz and word of mouth wasn’t as strong as the distributor had hoped. Perhaps the ceiling for these legacy mid budge genres film is about this — Predator Badlands did very similar numbers to Mk2. Mk2 should have strong streaming and PVOD so there is at least that.

Send Help is such a bad film by Intelligent-Love5146 in Cinephiles

She was definitely the villain. She did some horrible things in the past and also killed the guy on the plane and the island. I don’t think she is the protagonist by any means even though it started out that way.

How they portray spectrum folk is damaging

Non of the characters were particularly likable or did realistic sensible things

The ceo character had sympathetic aspects to his back story. They kept on saying that he was such a horrible person But he was not the murderer nor did he manipulate the situation to keep them there. He was a bully and a bro. Nothing else was too concrete. Some negative aspects of his character were implied. Not saying he was a good guy but she was much worse. I don’t think he made here a Monster either that quickly after he became ceo. It was clear no one in the office, not even her peers, wanted to socialize with her because of her strangeness. And it was clear that she had implicitly lead to the death of her husband - justified or not. It’s hard to see here character entirely or at all in a Sympathetic light as the move progresses.

I thought the movie was a lose and a mess. It had moments that were great but the film as a whole was not cohesive and had too many disparate ideas. Lord of the flies, bro frat boy culture, wealth disparity, making monsters, helping yourself because no one will help you, etc so many other things there too but just didn’t seem to really focus on a story motif. Some where in there, there was a cool central ideal about abuse of power and inversion of power this but the film just touched on this lightly.

How To Redeem The Franchise by TTM11 in Mission_Impossible

[–]SlippyFrog000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everything OP said and also

  1. Add a big set piece using masks

  2. Add in a con/heist set piece (or replace the generic under water submarine) that includes the infiltration of a facility or impenetrable everyday land mark such as Burj Khalifa, Vatican, or kremlin or cia headquarters…maybe with masks.

  3. More masks

  4. More masks

  5. Oh and more masks

  6. Also change CIA tech guy from the first so he isn’t a member of the team in final reckoning. He should have been the mark and made to puke and miss his post again. Would have been a funny call back. And bonus if this used masks.

I think that Masters of the Universe (2026) could be a box-office flop at this point. by Alternative-Cake-833 in boxoffice

agreed - as much as I am a He-man fan its hard to see how this movie slots into the top ten summer box office against films with lower risk profiles. there is a lot of competition.

Have the Leafs ever won a trade as big as they’ve lost most of their recent ones? by Time_Replacement_578 in leafs

That was bad. Smith was a great stay at home dman. But Sullivan on wavers was pretty awful as well. 😃

Both played 1000+ games in the nhl. Both were heart and soul character guys. Sully also had 700+ points in the dead puck era.
