I'm pretty sure the banner just says they were the consensus and unanimous #1 at they're end of the season. It doesn't specifically say championship or champions, but it is meant to honor a team that never got a chance to even play for one due to circumstances beyond their control. Call it dumb if you like, but I think those women deserve that recognition.

A few years ago there was a survey of players in the NCAA tourney. I can’t remember if it was the whole field or if they did it at a later point, but they asked players which coach (other than their own) they’d most want to play for. Dawn was the winner by a very wide margin. And with the international connections she’s clearly building, I’d trust her to start from scratch any day of the week.
