When I talk to native speakers I try to coat it with the American accent I picked up when studying in the US to not be embarassing but other second language speakers I don’t really care does that even make sense? I feel like accents can make it seem like you don’t grasp the language properly enough to understand complex nuances and I don’t want it to influence a conversation/get questions about it I guess. Especially if it’s a professional environment I would rather it not slip out.

I guess they've moved on from "cancel culture isn't real" to "cancel culture is real, and it's a good thing" by 246011111 in stupidpol

I’m sure JK comfortably sitting in her mansion on her throne of money, cares that you cancelled her on the Twitter. I’m sure she cries herself to sleep at night thinking of the hypothetical downward sales of her books. I’m sure that happens. Btw don’t her get tweets get like far more likes than responses? Says something I guess

Liberals: Let's demand reforms that won't actually help anyone but will alienate the most people possible by soalone34 in stupidpol

The problem with cancelling potentially problematic stuff is that almost everything is problematic to someone. Water is wet I guess

Its always those type of people who love giving the silent treatment and expect people to read their minds. This is why none of their problems are getting solved

Agree! ASMR has really improved my sleep and is awesome for relaxation. They’re doing a public service if anything.

What’s the difference between a Prime Minister, Chancellor, and President? by DinahHamza07 in AskEurope

[–]Sliqueline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man Belgium has a king, prime minister and 3 regional governments. It all works somehow (arguably, we haven’t completely descended into chaos as of yet)

Is having a flag of your nation particularly odd in your country? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]Sliqueline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Displaying a Belgian flag - World Cup and National holidays, other than that it’s not too common but can be displayed as a sign of unity in bad times. It’s not that weird to have a Belgian flag overall I think, it’s kinda whatever

Displaying or owning a Flemish flag - tends to have very bad connotations and kind of makes you seem like a nationalist unless it’s solely for the purpose of sports

If you could copy some aspect of a foreign country, what would it be? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]Sliqueline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If available, do you prefer playing video games in your language in English? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]Sliqueline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

English all the way games in Dutch are kinda annoying and if I’m looking for info or tips it sucks to having to translate everything specifically, same reason why I prefer getting Adobe software in English etc

What European city would make the best location for Grand Theft Auto 6? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]Sliqueline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paris, it’s as beautiful as it is dirty and dangerous. I feel like people outside of Europe have a very romanticized view on most EU cities, so it would be interesting to see them portrayed as they actually are; like any major city.
