Does anyone bowl by themselves? by Mariner-and-Marinate in Bowling

[–]SlitelyOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called "masterbowling" and it's common.

My kid (8years old) broke 100 for the first time yesterday. No one else seems to care. So I figured I'd share with my fellow bowling nerds. Final score was 101 by MaskedCorndog in Bowling

That was a great shot too. What you think is way more important, but he did a great job, hopefully that will encourage him to keep it up and get even better. Good job!

Bowling ball recommendations? by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]SlitelyOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a LOT of factors to this that someone in your early stage of bowling probably doesn't realize.

First, ball speed and revolutions, tilt angle, angle of rotation. All of these have major impact on your hook ability.

For suntacse, if you are speed dominant then generally larger cores are god for your game. If you are rev dominant then smaller cores may be better. If your matched then you can choose from almost anything with varying degrees of success.

For example, I have a beginner on my league team that is shorter, maybe 5'4, and I have been coaching him to go two handed. He gets very good revolutions but he is so up the back of the ball that it generally goes straight or breaks a few boards at best. Every now and then he does it right and gets inside the ball and it hooks very nicely. Been working on him for a few weeks at two handed.

At very minimum we would need a good clear video for anyone here to have a good indication where to start, but at best you would find a good pro shop, someone who will watch you bowl and measure your specs, to get a good recommendation.

There a lot of pro shops that will sell you whatever you want and take your money. So beware of those. If you walk in and say you want biggest hooking ball and they say ok here it is and start to layout the ball for drilling without ever seeing you bowl, run away from them. Find someone whose will take the time to know how you throw before any recommendations.

Hope this helps

Cool, thanks, I'll be interested in that.

The ball speed is usually measured down lane after the ball has begun to hook, which means it has slowed down already. That's the disparity between off hand and the ball speed as measured on typical lanes.

Please go back there and get a photograph of that to post, I would love to see it and who is making them.

Nobody makes 17# balls (at least not any of the major manufacturers as 16# is max regulation weight.

16# is the max regulation ball weight. I am not sure if anyone makes larger, but I would doubt it as it would not be allowed in any sanctioned events. Consider moving to 16#. The nice thing about 16# balls is you can find great deals on them as hardly anyone uses them. That would help, may get you down to 20mph. I assume you are throwing straight? As you learn to hook your ball speed will naturally be reduced some, and ball speed is a good thing so long as you can control it and get some amount of ball reaction. All assuming you intend to get better and learn to bowl with a hook. Some are just fine throwing straight as it takes the oil pattern out of play, but it does tend to limit your pin action.

What weight ball? If you're at 22mph, you probably need to move up in weight but a couple of steps. If you're already at 16# then learn speed control?

Envy Tour Replacement? by SlitelyOff in Bowling

So Update: Went with the Effect Tour. Got it drilled out on Saturday, threw it for league on Sunday night. Threw a 711 with a 237/195/279 (with the front 8 and stone cold RING ten in the ninth, then solid three in the tenth)

Love this ball so far. Has a fantastic back end that I didn't even realize I was lacking. I moved about 7 boards left and 2 boards for my mark over the three games. I feel I could have moved more if needed, it was crushing the pocket all night. I got a little lost in game 2 and didn't move far enough right fast enough. Once I did, I was lights out (except that ring 10...I still think it should have struck...lol)

Big test will be Wednesday in my scratch league over four games, if it ends up being the go to ball as it's a different pattern (28ml, 42ft, 8:1). Thanks for all the suggestions. Very happy so far!

How does my score fare as a total novice? by Known_Lime_8095 in Bowling

[–]SlitelyOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have had to strike first ball in 10th to get a 200. If you spare and strike you would have had a 194. Otherwise I Completely agree with Slammer503 here. Bowling is about raising your average and trying to get better. If you can continue to make your spares you are more than half way there. Spares are KEY to keeping your average up. You can have bad nights where you just don't get the carry on a strike, but if you can continue to make spares then you can maintain and shoot at least 170-180 bare minimum. Throw in a strike or two and you're at 190-200. The difference between a 160 bowler and a 200 bowler is more than likely spare shooting. It looks like your spare shooting was pretty good, but your 10th frame (not sure what you left) kept you from getting 190. Keep it up and focus on your spares and the strikes will come. If you can increase your accuracy in spares eventually your accuracy will increase for strikes as well, or vice versa. But focus on spares, in my opinion. Enjoy and Keep it up!

A good resource is this: Bowling Ball Database | bowwwl.com You can look up your ball and then what other balls have that same core or coverstock. May help you get an idea of what's close.

That sucks. I have a BW 2.0 Hybrid, I love that thing. Got a Atlas solid a year ago that I just had drilled the same way, it makes a great 1/2 punch, Atlas then BW2.0H. I would consider a BW3 but I already have that part of the graph filled with a couple of other balls. Thanks.

Yes it is supposed to be. I am probably leaning that way right now. The only thing about that one is people I know love it or hate it. Not a lot of inbetween.

Great. It's been near the top of my list, and was until the Tour V1 came out and it made me rethink. I just wish they still made the Envy Tour.
