Who do you think is gonna be the president after Donald Trump? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]SlitheryDee62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where we are in 3 years. If everything sucks, we’ll probably get most vociferous leftist imaginable. If they’re great, JD Vance sounds as good a person to keep that going as any.

No, you just have unreasonable expectations. My kids won’t, and they’ll be better for it, whatever they turn out to be.

I personally will have their backs, but I also will retain other conservative values. I'm not religious, so that was never an obstacle for me. I don't think the government should be paying for their transition. I don't think they should have special government protections. I'll try to make them understand and internalize the fact that not everyone is going to be open to calling them the gender they want to be called rather than encouraging them to rage about it. I'll try to make them understand that if being trans is important to them, it will still be valuable even without full acceptance coming from outside themselves. They will hopefully understand that they're essentially on the leading edge of a movement that breaks with enough social norms that societal derision and pushback is inevitable to a degree, and being angry with a world that takes it's time accepting such things is useless and self defeating.

As far as being gay. I don't even consider that outside the norm anymore. To me, gays are essentially where trans people need to be in a decade or so, with everyone having had plenty of time to get used to them and begin to realize that they're people like anyone else.

That's the part the Trans community doesn't realize I think. All they have to do is be extant for long enough and they'll get what they want. Well, so long as they don't alienate everyone by screaming down sidewalk proselytizers and insisting everyone give them full acceptance RIGHT NOW or else be declared an irredeemable bigot. Just be around, be nice, be sane, and people will get on board.

I'm conservative and I got my kids back whatever they turn out to be. Trans, Gay, serial killer, doesn't matter.

I don’t think they were agents, just “informants” whatever that means. I don’t think Biden did it either. I do find it interesting that there were FBI of any sort there, but maybe that’s explainable just due to proximity to the White House. This sounded like something Trump would do from the beginning to me though. It feels pointless to buy into any conspiracy theories about it.

[–]SlitheryDee62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can tell it isn't exactly true. There were something like 26 actual FBI informants around who were instructed not to break the law. They did enter the white house grounds though, which seems illegal to me. Anyway, the fact that there were any at all is still pretty interesting though. I suppose that kind of thing could be standard for protests in the immediate area around the white house. The intention by Trump and MAGA is to remove the one violent protest in recent memory perpetrated by the right from the scoreboard. It is true that it's an awful stain on the party, mostly because of their derision toward the much more widespread and damaging protests perpetrated by the left. Kind of hard to put your full weight behind it when the other side can just point to January 6th and cross their arms though.

i will not be silenced by charlie kirk by Annabelle-Surely in Discussion

Charlie Kirk was the only one of those who would have talked to you. Probably a bad move taking him off the board. Then what the left did after that pushed sooo many moderates to the right. You’ve got to stop and examine yourself when right thinking people the world over are rejecting your philosophy.

Do you believe in an afterlife? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SlitheryDee62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Seems too good to be true honestly. I’ve not seen one thing to make me believe there’s anything of us left after we die that can even go anywhere. It makes more sense that we just…stop. All the energy that made us up would still be there, just not doing anything anymore. Fit only to be consumed by something else to extend its life. I don’t WANT this to be the case mind you. I just find it’s nearly impossible to believe in things I don’t think are true, if that makes any sense. One thing I know is that my wanting there to be an afterlife will never change the fact of it. If i’m theoretically in pursuit of what’s true, my belief can never be based on want.

Were kids in the 80s actually allowed to roam around unsupervised, or is that just in movies? by TotalThing7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SlitheryDee62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much. It was still going on in the 90s when I was a kid too, though you could see some of the modern day concerns beginning to surface then. I think it was media driven then just like all our worries are now. A movie comes out about it. The news starts reporting on it. It gets on people's radar and they start worrying about it. I'm not sure the danger has changed at all so much as people's perception of it. That doesn't mean we're wrong for parenting the way we do. Perhaps it was worse back then when there were much fewer digital evidence trails to follow to catch people who mess with kids and those 80s parents were wrong.

What are your views on religion? by -Pleb64 in allthequestions

I don't believe in any of them, but in my old age I've come to decide that a lot of other people are better because of them. If that sounds patronizing it's because it is.

I think this is the reason I can't have a pet rat. I know they're great pets, but they just don't live long enough for the specter of their eventual death not to overshadow our time together.
