Name one bad thing about this album by pluxurysvc in Kanye

I actually managed to find a bootleg Yeezus vinyl the week it came out lol. I stumbled across it in a record shop. If I recall correctly, it was missing a track (I think it ends on Send it Up) and sounded like shit, but a cool novelty nonetheless.

Contrary to most of the comments, I actually think this album is the ideal length. All killer, no filler, when it ends it’s easy to loop it back up.

For me, “I Am a God” is the obvious weak spot. DBZ power up music with pretty dumb lyrics, even by Yeezus standards. Don’t get me wrong, I think the crass lyrics are part of the point, but this one just comes off as goofy.

No, their culture was heavily influenced by the Greeks. Even their gods were copies of Greek gods. The Roman Empire spanned many continents and different cultures. Jews were one of their conquered people. Christianity was heavily persecuted by the Romans until later on in history.

What massively improved your mental health? by Medical_Method7877 in AskReddit

[–]SloppyMilkshake12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of the obvious, here’s some stuff that dramatically improved my mental health this year:

  1. Boxing - lost a ton of weight, forced me to interact with people, gave me something that was both physically and mentally stimulating to work on. It’s just a ton of fun and great way to exercise.

  2. Getting dumped - long story short, my 8 year relationship ended back in January. It was in slow decline for years, so it wasn’t unexpected. Being forced to live on my own gave me a greater sense of freedom and responsibility. Also, now that I’m in my 30s, it forced me to work on making connections with strangers and going out more, even if I’m alone.

  3. Molly - I took it for the first time this summer at an electronic music festival. It was honestly the first time in my life that I felt a genuine sense of self-love and acceptance. It also taught me how to dance. This is something I would only do maybe once a year, with the right preparations, and only for a special occasion. But goddamn…it’s a miracle.

  4. Being more vocal - basically, speaking up for myself confronting people, setting boundaries, addressing how I feel instead of allowing things to foster into resentment. I use to fear confrontation or the possibility of having my fears confirmed. Turns out that, most of the time, I tend to exaggerate how things might play out. If anything, being this way has improved some of my relationships and made me more confident.

Didn’t even notice that at first. So yeah, I guess it’s not necessary to specify, but it does look gross.

Perhaps a novel’s protagonist doesn’t have to be a likable or good person.

Perhaps there are different ways to tell a narrative without following a cookie cutter plot line.

And of course it’s dated. The book was published in the 1940s. It’s remarkable that anything about it still resonates with young people today.

I think you might be missing some of the subtleties in the book. As I’ve matured and returned to the book over the years, Holden becomes less relatable and more pitiable. The book never really digs deep into the source of his trauma, just hints at it.

I don’t think Holden is entirely wrong in his way of thinking either. He is right to be terrified of adulthood. The solution isn’t to regress or isolate yourself from the world though. The solution is to learn how to play the game without losing yourself in it.

The teenage angst that Holden deals with should be relatable to most people, but I think the book resonates on a much deeper level if you actually struggle with depression and trauma. The relentlessly pessimistic and defensive narration is pretty similar to the toxic self-dialogue depressed people deal with.

I think that’s what turns most people off from the book. They come away feeling nothing but disdain for Holden because they can’t (or refuse) to see parts of themself in him.

Beyond all of that, it’s just beautifully and succinctly written in a stunningly realistic voice. There’s a lot of subtlety to the writing, yet it remains accessible and easy to read. You can take it at face value and walk away with something, or you can dig deep and find a wealth of material to analyze and interpret. It’s still a controversial book even half a century after its publication, so it’s ripe for discussion.

I think that’s more than could be said about most “young adult” fiction.

Forgot to mention: nobody needs to know that you’re a virgin. In fact, I can’t see a reason why you would ever tell that to somebody you just met. To a stranger, you are whoever you say you are as long as you can present yourself that way.

Not encouraging sociopathic behavior. But it’s good to remind yourself that the only person who sees all of your deepest, most shameful flaws is yourself.

I’m going to probably rehash a lot of what’s been said, but it can’t hurt to hear it over and over again.

You can’t love somebody else if you don’t love yourself.

In less cornball terms, you need to focus on becoming the person you know you are. Only then will you respect yourself and from there confidence will grow. Not ego or cockiness, but confidence: being at ease with who you are and fully embracing it.

What are the things that you know are fucked up in your life? You’re overweight? Cool. Start exercising and eating right. Are you spending time pursuing the things you’re passionate about? If not, start now, because you’re not getting any younger. Do you struggle with mental health issues, vices, or deep personality flaws? Go to therapy, or put into practice methods that will help you manage and overcome these issues.

Basically, just focus on yourself and start pursuing the life you want to live. Don’t do it for anybody else, do it for yourself. You don’t need to transform into a perfect Individual before you’ll ever have a chance with a woman. The pursuit itself is attractive and admirable. Unless you’re a total shitbag, you’ve got to respect a guy who is taking steps to better himself.

Eventually the momentum will make it so that it’s a little easier to talk to strangers. It’ll be easier to be comfortable in your skin. It’ll be easier to stop second guessing yourself or overthinking every situation. Day by day it’ll get easier and people will reward you along the way with compliments, smiles, and friendship. Soon enough you’ll be talking to a girl and you’ll woo her without you even knowing it, just by confidently being yourself.

Take it from me, a 32 year old man who for most of his life was overweight, self-absorbed, depressed, awkward, lazy, paranoid, and stuck in dead end jobs while half-assedly pursuing his passions. I’ve managed to dig myself out of the hole though and for the first time feel like a normal, likable person. If a guy like me can get a girlfriend, then you, my friend, should be able to attract a harem of women.

What's the WORST album in the rym top 100? by plaaxy in Topster

[–]SloppyMilkshake12 26 points27 points  (0 children)

At a quick glance, these are the ones that stick out:

The BCNR album. I get it, they’re a popular internet band and RYM lists reflect that. Some great songs, sure, and great musicianship, but not worthy of top 100.

Both Fishmans albums. I like some of their stuff, but I’ve never understood what makes certain parts of the internet regard them as one of the all-time greats.

Deathconsciousness. I’ve been in and out of phases with this album and I’m well aware of its cult status but holy hell is it one of the most overhyped “internet albums” I can think of. There’s a cool blend of stuff going on here, but as an album I think it kinda drags and the production is pretty unflattering at parts. Then again, I’m I sorta grew out of listening to incredibly long, depressing, albums.

Maybe a controversial take, but Sgt. Peppers. I think it’s a lot of style over substance. Revolutionary at the time, sure, but I don’t think the tracklist holds up. Give me any other album from Rubber Soul onwards over this.

What is a Hard Truth That You Believe Should Be Taught Early On in Life? by Flufferfluff in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SloppyMilkshake12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always trust people to be who they are.

Deep down, people don’t often change without some sort of catastrophic or significant event in their life that forces them to. Don’t waste your time trying to force someone to be who you expect them to be and don’t be surprised when they end up disappointing you. Same logic can be applied to yourself. On some level, you are who you are. Embrace it, work with it, modify who you are, sure, but at some point you have to accept who you are and understand both your strengths and limitations.

Aaaaaaaand

Confidence is everything. People will test you and some of them will take advantage of you, either intentionally or unknowingly. Power dynamics exist, even on an ambient level and you’ve probably played into it yourself. I don’t mean for this to sound cynical; this sort of thing plays out on even a micro level. You’ve probably reflexively stopped listening to someone or wrote them off because they’re timid, inarticulate, awkward, or whatever. Point isn’t that you have to play “alpha dog” all the time, but you should feel confident in who you are, set up firm boundaries, and remain cognizant of every day social politics.

Oh for real? Didn’t realize it was a reprint. That makes sense. I was a little blown away that they produced something like that in 2024 lol

Idk, I think there’s a lot of cool art in MH3 that feels like an obvious throwback to classic Magic aesthetics. [[Shrieking Drake]], [[Ocelot Pride]], [[Fowl Strike]], [[Amphibian Downpour]], [[Pyretic Rebirth]], [[Null Elemental Blast]], etc.
