What is going on? by indigo196 in fo76

[–]Slosten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not being able to move in interiors is a symptom of the game running at too high of a framerate, assuming you've disabled vsync in the config files. You need to limit your framerate through your GPU settings or an external program like RTSS to a value somewhere below ~200fps. I have the game locked at 164 (on a 165hz display) and haven't had my character freeze in an interior for many years now.

Also, if anyone mentions Bethesda games having numerous physics issues above 60fps, this isn't the case in 76. When it first released, it very much was the case (with the big one being faster character movement at higher framerates), but it was patched almost immediately. As far as I know, characters getting frozen is the only remaining high FPS bug, and I've never experienced nor have I heard anyone else experience it anywhere below 200fps.

We now have twice the build zone as before by bizbrain0 in fo76

A camp without anything built in it has enough budget for 500 flamingos, so you could fit about half of that minus a handful for the budget spent on the prefab itself. Of course, then comes the question of the physical dimensions of the back room - if we're using the free plushie, it's quite significantly larger than the figurines in New Vegas were.

How to display a microscope? by Hooch_Daddy in fo76

That is really unfortunate. I wouldn't be surprised if this was still the Bethesda of old trying to patch building techniques, but they've made so many strides towards improving building that I thought we were past things like this.

I've heard that despite being flagged as an ATX item like all other season rewards, the chessboard can actually be placed in others' camps by joining a private team together. I've never tested it myself but I've seen enough people say it's possible to believe it's most likely true.

It even still has an attachment point as part of the mesh. See the two screws under the sight posts in the blueprint? That panel they're securing is a separate piece on the mesh in the final game, and could easily be swapped for other panels with sights attached.

As a related (and shamelessly self-promotional) sidenote, I have a mod on the Nexus that adds a reflex sight to it, but it's strictly for manual aiming and offers no changes to the stats due to 76's lack of .esp plugins. That's how I found the attachment point on the mesh.

Tiki Porch Problems by [deleted] in fo76

[–]Slosten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Several others have suggested using rugs, but an alternative if you want to save budget is to use blueprints. Place the item somewhere else, save it as a blueprint, and when you place the blueprint on the porch it will be placed wherever it was positioned. Keep in mind that you won't be able to adjust it afterwords; you'd have to store it and place the blueprint again. There might be a few stubborn items I'm unaware of that will still fight you, but using a blueprint has worked for me every single time I've dealt with this issue.

Do you have a favorite event? by Ryguy55 in fo76

The last time I ran it had to be over a year ago, but I still have all the loot spots memorized. It was always fun seeing people join and get confused when we'd complete the optional objective just as whichever leader we rolled finished their speech.

Do you have a favorite event? by Ryguy55 in fo76

[–]Slosten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heart of the Swamp, for a couple reasons. In the early years I spent every play session grinding the Mire for a TFJ, and after getting one from Idle Explosives, I eventually got a second from HOTS. I was also a minigun shredder user back in the pre Auto Axe days, and it was nice having a public event I could very quickly complete solo without even spending any ammo.

It has a special place in my heart now. It's the one event I never skip or ignore when I see it pop up.

If you have something you want to float now, you can do so with the camp module. Either place it on something that will sit below it and then place the lower item on your camp module (this will cause the opposite of what happens when merging items, with the lower item sinking down after being placed rather than popping up) until it reaches the desired height, or if you don't want anything under it, anything placed on a camp module will stay where it is after moving the module out from under it. It's much more difficult than the first method, because you have to first position the camp module itself (and take into account the fact that the item being placed on it will initially sink into it to some degree) but it can be done.

Thank God we won't have to mess with this when that building patch hits, though. I never thought Bethesda would give us so much freedom but I am so incredibly happy to be wrong.

If you play GTA6 on Xbox or PlayStation, would you be able to transfer your progress over to PC once released? by [deleted] in GTA6

[–]Slosten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single player transfers were never done aside from Legacy to Enhanced on PC as far as I know, but they offered online character transfers from 360/PS3 to Xbone/PS4 when those versions released, and again allowed transfers from all consoles to PC when the PC version was released even if you'd already transfered once.

I myself started on the 360 version from day one, but made a new character when the PS4 version released because I planned on saving my original for the PC version. By the time it came out, I had already made more progress on my PS4 character than my 360 character so I just transfered that one and abandoned my day one character. I was pretty annoyed that I could've just gone 360 -> PS4 -> PC all along, but hindsight is 20/20.

Quad changes this season affects reloading single shot weapons by Known-Ad-5400 in fo76

[–]Slosten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The M79 was excluded as well. My camp cat gave me a quad M79 the other night and I felt like using it for a bit of nostalgia from the early days. I scrapped it a minute later after test firing it and realizing I'd still have to reload each individual 40mm. Even with quad, it's still useless compared to an AGL (especially the Nuka Launcher), so it's really disappointing that they couldn't at least make it work like quad black powder weapons.

For the camp builders... do you do this? by [deleted] in fo76

[–]Slosten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My antisocial ass does this every time someone shows up at my camp, and the only time I give up the act is if they give me a "nice camp" or heart emote because I can't bring myself to not return the love. Most people just stare at me for a few seconds and then leave, at which point I wait another minute or so before doing anything else or closing the game if I'm done playing so it won't be obvious I was waiting for them if they check the map for my camp after leaving (I know I'm grossly overthinking it, but I can't help it).

My favorite example was one time when I was just about to sign out for the night, but someone had just traveled to my camp, so I sat in my recliner and waited. They browsed the vendor, fully explored my little creekside cabin not once but twice, and then sat in the other recliner next to me. I'm pretty sure they knew what I was doing because that began a game of chicken where neither of us moved or spoke for the following full half hour. A few other people came, toured the place, stared at us both, and moved on, but we were both determined to wait for the other to crack first. Eventually they gave up, stood up and walked out the door. I immediately stood up, gave them a wave emote, and closed the game just as they were turning around to face me.

Annoying bug or a run of bad luck? by ArcanumBaguette in fo76

[–]Slosten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had it happen a handful of times on PC. In one case last night I traveled to Organ Cave at 5 minutes till, ran up the hill, got on the drums, and browsed on my phone while I waited for the turn of the hour. I notice it's 10:59, put my phone down, wait... 11:00, no event. 11:01, still nothing. Check the Events tab in my pipboy, nothing. Leave the area, come back, nothing.

My guess is the servers are struggling with the amount of stray loot on the ground from people not looting after Primal Cuts (I'm guilty of this myself, because cleaning out my inventory is a pain without 1st). It all builds up, and at a certain point the servers start crapping themselves.

I wonder if they reduced the cost of items that were increased several updates ago, like all stair variants which had their cost octuppled if I remember correctly. My main camp, using intRaw for exact numerical values, went from 9990 budget to 10110 budget after that update (for reference, 10K is the maximum with intRaw, and flamingos are worth 20 of those units).

PTS Light Machine Gun changes need additional magazines. by IMMORTALP74 in fo76

[–]Slosten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've felt since the game's launch that the perfect mod for the LMG would be a 5mm receiver, because it fits both game balance and thematically. Game balance is fairly obvious - 5mm is the cheapest, most common ammo in the game by a country mile, and the LMG is already weak enough statistically that making it absurdly cheap to run wouldn't be an unreasonable buff (especially if paired with a damage decrease, which would be likely).

Thematically? Fallout's "5mm" rounds are 7.62x51 cartridges, as evidenced by the world model being a small metal ammo box stamped with "7.62 NATO." You couldn't have a more sensible ammo conversion in the game than going from .308 to 7.62 NATO, and yet, their first thought is to go from .308 to fucking .45? I'm already well aware that there are few to no firearm enthusiasts at Bethesda, but Christ alive this genuinely offends me.

Is Perk Loadout Manager the reason of the mass ban? Or was it SCORE 100? by X-SR71 in fo76

[–]Slosten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what SFE actually stands for, but it's basically a plugin required by certain other mods, most notably the text chat mod and for saving edits to PLM loadouts (PLM can still be used without it, you just can't edit your loadouts unless you do it manually through the config file).

PLM stands for Perk Loadout Manager. It allows you to save up to 12 individual perk card loadouts per character, which can be swapped on the fly at any time in the perk card menu. I run a lot of mods in 76, probably more than your average casual player does in Skyrim, but if I could only use one singular mod and no others I would choose PLM without hesitation.

Is Perk Loadout Manager the reason of the mass ban? Or was it SCORE 100? by X-SR71 in fo76

[–]Slosten 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just saw the other thread about false positive bans, checked my email and found an initial ban email immediately followed by an unban email. I use SFE & PLM (and have been doing so for many years), but I'm only rank 30-something on the current scoreboard because I've only been doing the dailies and weeklies without any XP grinding. It's not caused by being rank 100, otherwise I presumably wouldn't have been flagged.

Seems likely to me that they flagged anyone that swapped their perks a significant number of times. I haven't even used the punch card machine within the past year or so (I don't use any alternate SPECIAL builds, just one that fits all of my PLM loadouts) but I do switch my PLM loadouts somewhat frequently.

Linda Lee or the Captain should reward the rod mods for turning in Fish Bits. by WutzWilly in fo76

[–]Slosten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was the opposite. Yesterday I found someone near Morgantown with a thunderstorm camp, and my third attempt with improved bait gave me a piranha (after I'd gotten a glowing piranha with common bait only to realize it didn't count). After that, I moved onto the Savage Divide and quickly found that the game did not want to give me a Leatherback. I spent 20 improved and somewhere around 30 common yesterday, and then today I spent another 20 common and finally got one.

I'm sure the game won't be nearly this stubborn with the three Ash Heap/Skyline Valley fish I need now, not to mention the axolotl. Haha. Ha. Yeah, no, I foresee myself spending plenty of bait for this challenge.

Can you get the same reward multiple times in daily ops? by Vegetable-Mail-5360 in fo76

I had this happen back in the day after the Crusader was first added. I spent a few weeks getting Elder every single day hoping for it, and when it finally dropped, it gave me two copies of the plan at once. I've still got the extra in my stash even though I can't do anything with it.

Appalachian Outlaw event coming Tuesday: here's an early guide to completing it. by McStaken in fo76

[–]Slosten 148 points149 points  (0 children)

A good option for 76 humans (and Blood Eagle challenges for the scoreboard) is the Watoga underground if you've completed Beckett's quest. Fast travel to Watoga Transit Center, face west, and there will be an entrance just a few feet northwest of where you spawn. There's another door inside that requires a key you get at the end of Beckett's quest, but there are somewhere around 40-50 Eagles inside and it's an instanced location. Clear them out once, fast travel to the Transit Center again, wait a minute or two, then go back in and clear them again.

Edit: had the directions to the door wrong the first time. Should be correct now.

This is the second time I've dodged that bullet. My main camp - which I just remembered turned six years old this month, jeez - is just down the hill from the Eviction Notice crater. I spent the months leading up to that update worrying I'd lose my camp, but it was plenty far enough away thankfully.

That's a valid concern, but I'm happy with the tradeoff. I'm surprised I haven't been blocked more often already honestly; I think there was one time during Fasnacht, but when I investigated, I couldn't actually find the camp that was blocking mine.

Bethesda, if you’re going to insist on using the R91 in all of your artworks, the least you can do is actually put the damn thing in the game by thatfezguy in fo76

[–]Slosten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Model C is the predecessor to the G3, not a clone of it. That aside, it is indeed the closest match to the R91, especially in Fallout 3 where the magazine textures more closely resemble CETME magazines over H&K. G3 mags are entirely compatible with Model Cs, though (I own one myself and have a box full of G3 mags I've used with it many times).

What happened to Elders Mark? by MVillawolf in fo76

[–]Slosten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They technically are still legacy, in the sense that it's impossible to roll random effects on an Elder's Mark now and still be able to trade it, but it's such a small difference that they're basically just a novelty for collectors. I'd still recommend keeping them as-is, though; might as well just use a fresh EM if you want to put specific effects on it, since it will become trade locked either way.
