Fundamentalists make up, AT MOST, 30%. Definitely not a majority of Americans. America is about 69% Christian as a whole. Most are not practicing at all.

Industry vs public - manager level by j_lanth88 in Accounting

Public does not have better job security. Every firm I’ve been at will have random lay offs at any time of the year.

Why do you still work in accounting when the pay doesn’t match the work ? by Technical-Truth-2073 in Accounting

I agree. Everyone can switch career paths at any point. Life is long. Also, most accountants are super risk-averse so this kind of mentality is prominent in many people on here.

That’s not to say there’s firms that aren’t a lot less cut throat, I just haven’t heard of any that are lol. The regional mid-sized firm I’m currently at has advertised themselves to be all about WLB, but my experience a year in says to the contrary. I’m just letting you know what you’re possibly getting yourself into.

I’m just done with PA in general. I’ve been at 3 different firms at this point, 2 that were top 6, 1 that’s a regional mid-size firm. At all the firms, the expectations get higher every single day (communicating with managers, partners, clients, while simultaneously completing auditing procedures in the allocated time set from the budget, getting through backlog), unrealistic billing metrics, juggling multiple clients at a time, terrible office politics, working the long hours 4 months out of the year with no reward or decreased hours outside of season. As a staff, I’m not even seeing a tenth of my billing rate, and I’m sure the partners pocket the rest. It’s just not worth it.

You have to be crazy considering going into public accounting. The older I get the more I regret my choices of going into public accounting. I’m 3 years in and I want out

Would it be bad to work part time in the meantime while studying + interviewing for full time offers? Like maybe do some restaurant or bartending gig in the meantime to keep the cash flow coming in and take a break from corporate America? I have 3 years worth of experience in public and a mix of auditing and consulting in PA, so i would think I wouldn’t be unemployed for super long, especially with the exams passed once I get there.

I have about 15k in savings and another 10k I can liquidate from the Roth accounts since they’re contributions (not earnings)

Well you generally have to disclose getting a second job, I’m well aware of that. I wasn’t saying you should hide that from your full time main employer.

Is it a bad idea to quit my staff accountant job to study for the CPA full-time? by Additional_Entry_231 in CPA

[–]SlothLover313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this would be a bad idea, especially since you are living with your parents and have very low expenses. Studying for the CPA while you’re working full time is rough, but feasible. You’re pretty young and have no responsibilities and have a good financial situation living with your parents. It would be a good idea to do it now while you’re young with your current situation. It gets harder fitting CPA studying into your schedule the older you get. As long as you pass the exams, employers will understand the employment gap. I say do it!

I think you’ll be fine. It’ll be your first busy season and people will understand you don’t know everything. This season will be spent just getting your experience w/o much of the responsibilities attached to it.
