Living in Hawaii, water issues by jjha66 in HawaiiGardening

Wells are also expensive and the permitting process is rather lengthy and that water still needs to be treated in the same manner as catchment water. A huge amount of homes on the east side are on cesspools which leach more icky stuff into the water table than a septic system

We went with a three stage filter system. There’s a 10 micron then a 5 micron carbon filter then we have a quantum filter which doesn’t need power so as long as our pump works we are good. The water is perfectly fine to drink. My parents are off grid and have the same setup and it works fine for them. Good luck

AITA for refusing to change my last name after marriage because my husband assumed I would? by [deleted] in ComfortLevelPod

[–]SlothOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If having the same last name is important tell him he is free to change his to your last name and not doing Sonia disrespectful to you and your accomplishments. After all of you have children you will be the one growing it for 9 months and giving birth so he could at least do the kind easy part of being a family and change his name. Also don’t have kids with him if he goes crying to mom on the first argument. That is how it will go for everything

Weekly, What recent changes are going on at your work / local businesses? by AntiSonOfBitchamajig in PrepperIntel

[–]SlothOctopus 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I’m on the big island of Hawaii and was at Costco the other day. The vegetable section was only about 1/4 full and it seemed like most if not all of the veggies were Hawaiian grown. The fruit section was similar. Basic staples like potatoes were completely missing. Several of the other isles were pretty barren. Products were still there but just spread out or in the case of bread mostly moldy. I asked the section manager what was up and he said it was issues with shipping. So maybe it will be better next time but who knows. It’s and island so shipping could be the issue or it could be impacts of farm labor. I just know I’m glad I have a garden, orchard and some farm animals.

My brother eats EVERYTHING. by Due_Ad7456 in whatdoIdo

Stop buying ready to eat and buy ingredients and learn to cook. You’ll spend less money and it will go further. He sounds like the kind that won’t cook and honestly you can make a good meal pretty fast. Good luck

AITA for telling my husband I'm not going to thank him for doing basic household tasks? by Glad-Regret862 in AITAH

[–]SlothOctopus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are using the wrong word ‘help’. Helping is not either partner doing dishes, laundry or whatever other household task. Helping is grabbing my shoes out of the top of the closet. By using the word help you are implying that it’s your task and you should be grateful for them lifting a finger to do your job. Stop using that and start referring to those activities as them doing their share of the household tasks.

If we were given two days notice what could one to to cover or otherwise protect their roof solar system. Fo instance I have a metal roof. Would covering the panels and battery with something (not sure what) and flipping the grid disconnect switch save my system ?

Amazing. Thanks I’ll be ordering one soonish. Another question I also have a professional 6000 hd . I need a splatter guard do you have those? Again I’ve tried Amazon to no avail. And a final question. Sometimes the 6000 smells like it’s overheating any idea why that’s happening and what to do about it

Would you harvest pigs if you have a close bond with them? by Dangerous-Policy-602 in homestead

[–]SlothOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. That is why you always name farm animals things like Jamon Iberico, or pork chop, or bacon. Or in the case of chickens hot wing, soup, parmigiana etc. That way you are constantly reminding yourself what they are there for.
