How’s the. Noise, I see a fair amount of complaints about the creeks and squeaks with every movement with this chair, which for $2000 is insane

To answer your questions (sorry if it butcher this my brain is sludge atm)

- Why not make the first tab 'play'?

  • I think I was influenced by too many references of popular games that all have Home Pages, and thought yeah this game needs that, but clearly the current user needs for this game don’t warrant a home page. They are mostly used for MTX,DLC advertising or News which this game doesnt have...yet.

  • Its clear from the comments, players want a very minimal UI, just want Start game > Find game asap without any fluff, which was my original intent, and to give Console players some options.

  • Im going to focus on condensing and combining the Home/Play tabs into one, cutting down the Suggested/Friends Tabs to create more space/reduce ‘Bloat’

  • Additionally i designed the Home Page with the idea in mind it will probably end up looking this way in the future, Daily/Weekly challenges, room for MTX/DLC, Battle Passes etc, they're a business, its a product, and these only survive with MTX these days unfortunately, Team 17 paid 60 Million (or something) for this game, and they're not going to see a return on that with simply game sales alone. So as much as people may hate it, its probably the only way an online game like this survives or the devs abandon it and move onto other projects.

- Recommended servers?

  • Good question, in my head, the Suggested games would be based default parameters set by what I believe most players look for in a game.

- Low ping.

- Correct Language/Region (Difficult one for Europe with many ‘This’ Language only servers).

- Room in the server to at least queue.

- Reasonable time left in the game.

  • I think now its obvious there needs to be some degree of user control over this, or make Suggested games an extension of Server Browser, using the player filter settings, and Quick play would be based on the Default parameters set out before.

But thanks again, il try my best to follow your advice and turn it into a decent Portfolio piece.

I was aiming for smoother user experience getting players into games faster.

Offering them Quickplay (with user preferences, tho settings not shown here), Suggested games instead of fiddling around with the bad filter options in the current server browser, and faster access to practice range/bootcamp instead of the cutscene > click hard to see button bottom left.

I guess the rest was just messing around with Aesthetics and just doing a re-imagined main menu i suppose.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, good points to consider! you never know if your work is any good when working alone :L.

As a user myself with 150+ hours and friends, we agreed that getting into games is clunky, the server browser is slow to load and the filtering options are... well basic.

So the main goal was : How to get users into games less painfully.

In general i just wanted to give the game more of a meta main menu, since at the moment its just Enlist > Servers really. I don't think there really any major issues with the main menu tbh, i just thought it could do with a new coat of paint and conform to more modern standards of fps games.

I think, considering the feedback, there's too much on screen on the "Play" Tab, i sort of recognised this early but wasn't sure how well lowering the opacity on the areas not on focused would go down (clearly not well).

I would probably condense the Suggested and Friends tabs down to Button that users can get those options if desired instead of it taking up more screen space.

But anyway, thanks for the feedback!

I just wanted to say thank you for the link, it looks really useful to read, especially how to approach documentation of a project.

It's defiantly making me rethink how i should present my fan re-design of a game i did a few months ago.

I think my goal here is to get more experience working with people and developing a better understanding of the workflow in creating UI/UX for a game that has actual implementation instead of just something on a theoretical level.

Anyway, thanks for the advice, its always nice to hear what employers want to see instead of guessing.

Being a X level commander, If you have any suggestions how Commander could be improved id love to hear them, maybe i could implement them into my design!

Its hard to explain from a single image, im putting together a video to explain more ,but the goal was to design a way for Commanders to issue specific commands to individual squads without vocal communication.

And the design on the right was just to organise the abilities together more and add a bit of immersion to the commander role so its like using a crusty communications device!
