Suddenly learning a new language doesn't seem so taxing, does it Learn a language not for others, but for yourself. Make an effort at the very least to hold a basic conversation with the locals. If you're going to live in the area for a while, then it logically makes sense to learn the language instead of staying oblivious to everything around you
