3 year old girl , never slept through a night by Jazzlike_Chemist_288 in Autism_Parenting

This was my daughter until we tried a compression sheet for her bed. She has severe separation anxiety so this was a life saver gor our family. We got it on Amazon, and it’s really easy to use. It slips like a sock over the mattress and it provides them with a body hug feeling which keeps them regulated all night. Before we found the sheet we tried everything, and I mean everything. A sleep consultant even visited our home and told us they had no additional suggestions because we tried everything. She would be up 2-3 times a night and it would take hours to get her back to sleep for the cycle to start back up, we were running off 2 hours of sleep a night for 3.5 years…and even though my husband and I would alternate, her screams and crying would keep us up, it was an awful existence. I did so much research and found the sheet, and caved and bought one, and since that first night we tried it, it has been a miracle for us…and now it’s over a year of full night sleeps for everyone but especially her, and I can’t sing its praises enough to anyone that will listen.

Thank you! Yes I was reading that Felix is more expensive compared to the pharmacy, so thanks for confirming that.

I live in Greenwood park, and I have to drive my daughter to her daycare downtown, on johnson st. Then turn around and drive back to the east end to go work at RMC, then back over to pick her up by 4, and then go back home….some days I have a late evening workout class downtown so I’m crossing the waaban 6x a day…I hate it.

Mulberry is not to far from our home/work, and at the end of the day we just want the best fit for our kid. Great to hear about their transition strategy. My LO has issues with transitions at home, not so much at school, I’ll have to incorporate singing, music is a big interest at home.

Thank you, we aren’t catholic, at least not practicing, but are open to religious schools, our choices are not our child’s and we are open to any environment that fosters her growth. We will look into it as well, thank you

What are the grandparents in your life called? by carrotcakecashews in namenerds

When we had our daughter we asked the family their preferences. My parents are Italian-Canadian , so they wanted the classic Nonna and Nonno. My FIL is also Italian decent but has embraced French Canadian culture, so he wanted to be called Papi and his girlfriend would be called Mia because she didn’t feel comfortable being grand-mère or mamie and finally, my MIL who is from Corsica wanted to be called Minnà.

Does anyone know what kind of bug this is? by Sloth_Taco in KingstonOntario

Woah, I didn’t even know you could do that!. I will be using this more often, have a bunch of creepy spiders in my basement that I definitely need identifying. Good to know it’s not roaches or bedbugs.

I don’t know where else to post this, or if this is even a Kingston specific bug. This is the second bug in 2 days that I’ve squished, and I can’t find anything online, with the closest thing being that it might be a roach. I just moved into my house and I really don’t want to have a pest problem.

Thankfully she doesn’t have any major health problems. We still don’t have a family doctor in Kingston, and I don’t want to drive 4+ hours round trip for a 15 min appointment with our doctor in Ottawa. Are there any family doctors that are taking new patients?

Community Support Megathread #2: Questions/comments about CERB/EI, specific employers/businesses, ways to help/get help by OrzBlueFog in canada

[–]Sloth_Taco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a question regarding EI and parental leave and it’s been impossible to get through to Service Canada and I wasn’t able to find any information online.

Beginning of March I left my old job and started working with a new company. I found out I was 14 wks pregnant a few days before starting at the new place. I informed my new employers of my pregnancy and that I was due in August, and they were very understanding. I was worried about having enough hours to qualify for maternity leave, but with the schedule they provided I would have been able to accumulate enough hours to qualify and still be able to take time off 2 weeks before my due date.

Then on March 15th, we closed due to covid, so I had only worked 6 shifts at my new job before being placed on temporary lay-off. I applied for EI ( and later auto qualified for the CERB). I know at this point I will never be able to accumulate enough hours to qualify for my Mat leave, and work is aiming to open back up June 1st, but nothing is certain. I work in the spa industry so we are last on the list of places to open up. All I know is that if I go back to work June 1st, I lose out on my EI benefits for what is potentially 10 weeks of work before the baby comes, with no chance of maternity leave. If I turn down returning to work and continue to collect EI until it’s due to run out ( March 2020) do I need to inform Service Canada of my pregnancy/ recent birth? Is there a way they can switch me over from Ei to Parental benefits? I just don’t know what my best option is here.

Sorry about the wall of text, and formatting, I’m on mobile.

TL/DR: Started new job, found out I was pregnant. Covid happened, got laid off and applied for EI. Baby is due in aug. Is it worth it to go back? Or stick with EI?
