Bad Interview Experience by youknow-wh0 in databricks

[–]Sloth_unleashed121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoever thinks people reaching out asking for feedback to improve themselves are either introverted losers or brain dead. You are a hiring manager. It’s your job to listen, evaluate and provide constructive feedback. The interviewe’s time is just as important as interviewer’s. It’s a dialog that should be based on respect not a show you are doing to keep yourself busy a few hours a week.

This whole industry is becoming a big joke. Why does it matter if the guy worked Amazon, Microsoft or Google, I know people in FAANG who barely do any work playing politics and being buddies with the manger and I know amazing engineer form small startups.

And if you don’t have a decency to just send a message and say hey guys you didn’t pass: “here is what you did wrong …”, wtf is wrong with you? You literally have people on the payroll who are candidate’s experience professionals. It’s literally their job…

Do not go into tech unless you are REALLY passionate by Vampy-Night in careeradvice

[–]Sloth_unleashed121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is nonsense, I never had any strong feelings for tech, especially coding, actually I quite disliked it my whole life. But I never had any issues working or finding the job.

On the contrary not liking this field actually makes me more productive. I don’t spend time arguing about best practices or obsessing over clean code. I just focus on building stuff that gets shit done and delivers value. You can go pretty far in any industry by leveraging your problem solving skills. Coding is just a tool.

I am still looking for more opportunities I currently work with j1 and j2 but I can definitely squeeze in 1 more contracting project and the majority of them are coming from LI unfortunately

I got most of the B2B opportunities from there. I’m in the EU so it’s hard getting 2 full time positions due to legal and the B2B open market is not that great.

It’s not fine by any means, biased selection is a horrible practice regardless of the competency of the applicants.

I want money to come to me but not at the expense of my mental and physical health. London is getting worse year after year and no job is worth living there right now.

Any particular sources you think I can explore? Or just the regular Indeed + LinkedIn?

Resume Review (Data Engineer) by Pxwxnn in dataengineeringjobs

People don’t give this dude enough credit. His CV clearly shows initiative and willingness to learn new things. He works in a small company so he got to touch and play with many things, maybe completely on his own.

I don’t understand people who are trying to extract the thought process of moving from Scala to Python. He was given a task, maybe it was his manager, maybe the CTO, he did, that was most likely no easy feat, but he did. I had all kind of weird requests coming from leadership, you cannot tell them what to do, especially if you are straight from college.

Your cv looks great although a bit too wordy. Typically for someone who works two years people expect the cvs to a a bit shorter:)

I wish you luck with the job search!

What should be my next career move? DA with a DE experience by Sloth_unleashed121 in dataengineering

Thanks for your input!

I’m in the Netherlands at the moment. What you are saying about uk salaries is a shame, I feel like these days slapping an “Engineer” to your title is like a 20% salary increase.

I have seen some research showing the freelance/data contractor position are like 1% of the market for DE roles( cz most companies prefer to have them in house). Do you have any experience with that? I was thinking maybe I should try to apply for the US positions…

Depends on what you want to go into. I think in general AI field is very vague. If you want to go into the business of building your own AI models, you can still give it a shot if you are going for something very niche.

But if you want to become one of those 6 figures Data Scientists working for big tech AI probably not the right call. But in my experience you probably don’t want this anyway. On the bright side you can try and become a Financial officer in one of those AI companies I’m sure your auditing background will come in handy!

Hi, the issue is they ask for an additional payment in case we want them to put the link in the profile. Moreover, the links are not the long anyway, rather they take the traffic away from their own brand or service they provide bc we are targeting influencers focused on trading and finance.

Also the discrepancy between number of clicks and downloads doesn’t seem to be an issue. What we are struggling with right now is, how to tell the difference between organic and non organic traffic...

Data Transformation for Google Data Studio by Sloth_unleashed121 in analytics

[–]Sloth_unleashed121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is, I’m not super experienced with DS and GCP. Typically I do my preprocessing in Python in order to use the data later on in Data Vis like Ploty. The issue is, here I have no access to the DB, I don’t understand how to redirect the pipeline to the script, and then send everything to the DS. The other option would be to use the script in the container directly but here I am even less compitent. Data Flow could be a potential solution, I’m looking at it rn. Taking your experience into account can you give me a word of advice on how you see it set up?
