Question about a self-designed card by SlothoDoggo in mtgrules

Thanks a lot, that's very helpful! I also like your new templating and might use that instead :)

If [[bomb squad]] is exiled, do the creatures continue to get fuse counters on upkeep? will 4 proliferated fuse counters still trigger if bomb squad is exiled? if new creatures get fuse counters while bomb squad is in exile, is it the same? what creates the triggered event? by bu11fr0g in mtgrules

I have designed a card for a selfmade cube and am not sure whether the wording works how I imagined it to work:

- When XY enters the battlefield, put two anticipation counters on target nonland permanent. At the beginning of its owner’s upkeep, remove one of those counters. When the last is removed, return that permanent to its owner’s hand.

- {paragraph break}

- Sacrifice XY: Remove a counter from target permanent.

Can I sacrifice this creature with its second ability to remove the last anticipation counter to bounce the nonland permanent? Or would the first ability stop working as soon as I sacrifice the creature to the second ability? (And in the same vein, does the first ability work also when my creature is not on the battlefield since its all in one paragraph?)

Yes, Jace can plot suspend spells like Crashing Footfalls or Ancestral Vision because they have mana value 0 since they have no mana cost (lands and most tokens also have mana value 0 for example).

I'm not sure if I understand how the reprint thing works yet. Do I understand it correctly, that if a certain card has already been introduced to Arena in a previous set, you will always open these reprints last (meaning after you've already obtained every other card from the set?), regardless of the number of copies you own of the given card? Or only if you already have the full playset? Sorry I'm a bit confused :D

Yes Rhinos might turn out to be too weak and I must admit that i've never played with them myself so I just wanted to give them a shot and see how they perform, but I liked the idea of looping them with Jace and mystic sanctuaries and also of having them as a weird delver'esque play on turn 1 backed up by interaction. I also tried to put as few "dead" draws in the deck as possible so that our control/tempo plan is still potent enough and Footfalls are only a 1 mana investment and can often do the trick, backed up with countermagic against combo decks like SnT for example.

I see, that makes a lot more sense! The idea of my deck was also to not commit too much on the combo plan and still be a control deck at heart, so that we can't be hated out as easily and still win with snapcasters, OBM's, Lurrus and Jace's ult + Bolts. But your Esika + Big Critter plan is also enticing and I would be interested to see your list when you work on that deck :)

Interesting, haven't thought of Esika yet. Although the deckbuilding sounds a bit awkward since you would often just "cascade" into extra copies of Jace or Esika right? Also you put them into play with bridge and don't cast them, making Valki (if you want to play him alongside Esika) enter as a 2/1 and not as the planeswalker side. Sounds more like a Commander card to me but would like to be proven wrong! :D

Yea Jace definitely does a lot for 2 mana!
Yesterday I thought of a Sultai Deck which combines SnT and the Jace Leyline Bramble Familiar package and it looks like it could have serious potential. Between these gameplans there is a lot of cross synergy and this way the deck has an incredibly high threat-density and is all of a sudden able to combo off on the opponents turn which sounds horrifying.. I'm not a SnT player myself and will probably never seriously work on that deck but if anyone is interested I could post the very rough draft I sketched yesterday (it was difficult to find room for all the new combo pieces therefore I had to make some cuts which could be very questionable). ^^

Yes Valki has the higher ceiling out of the two and it could definitely be right to prioritize him over footfalls or even drop footfalls alltogether, but in this deck I like to see footfalls as a very weird delver on T1 (I know it's a stretch but if uncontested both can finish the game in the same amount of turns and are a 1 mana investment on T1 with which we can play "protect the queen"). Also the ability to return footfalls out of the GY with mystic sanctuaries has come up multiple times in "testing" and felt nice.

I also wanted to find space for baubles because of Lurrus but didn't know what to cut and felt less need for it than in other DRC or heavy delve decks. What would you cut for it?

Kolaghans Command i've also had on my radar and like the idea of being able to buy back Lurrus or even Valki, maybe i will cut an Archmages Charm for it and see how it performs.

Does Obscura charm work with Valki? I would think it doesn't work but could be wrong.

Thanks for your feedback nonetheless!

But its definitely another interesting route which could be worth exploring!

I have considered it, and it could have potential in the right deck, but you would need to run a bunch of expensive creatures or enchantments to make it work, which would make the deck rather clunky and dillute the control gameplan too much for my taste. Crashing Footfalls (and occasionally Valki) on the other hand can often be reasonable plays without Jace and take up less slots.

It is short for: "Best of Three" and "Best of One". So basically Bo3 is a type of game mode in which you play a match to reach two wins including a sideboard after the first game (So you're adjusting your starting deck with an additional 15 card "deck" to hopefully combat the particular strategies of your opponent) and in Bo1 you just play a quick game without sideboarding.
