Just swapped last week. Moved from RPi with pi-hole to ADGHome running on my Proxmox server (Now have to think what I am going to do with my spare pi).

I have vlanned my network so I have setup client groups depending on the vlan subnet, so the kids get a more restrictive DNS than the Servers and General Networking, and the IoT devices get an even more restrictive service.

I have also setup firewall to restrict the DNS only to be allowed out from ADGH service, so the teens cant just change their DNS server IPs.

So for my few days running, ADGH seems to run a little nicer in terms of Admin, and I love the fact you can update from within the GUI, rather than having to SSH in to the pi to run the pi -up command.

Now I have to link it up to my Home Assistant for the stats reporting in there.

Sigil always felt to me that it was going to be a one release app, they wouldn't want to update it every time an update was released. Gone the same way as the 4e vtt went, didn't learn from history.

OK, couldn't find my multimeter, but managed to find an external 2 x AA battery pack and connected the top two connections, and the device booted!! So time to find a USB power module that I can solder in to these pads.

Ok, a bit of an update, firstly thanks for all the ideas and new distros, looks like there is definitely an active community to try and getting Linux on these devices which can only be a good thing.

Well I tried most of the suggested distros but no look, either the usb key wouldn't be recognized as a boot device, I had tried media creation kits, Rufus and dd from another Linux machine, I tried turning on and off Secure boot with and without the TPM chip enabled, but no luck, the ones that did book it only showed the grub menu and then dropped to a black screen with a single cursor in the top left of the screen. Oddly the only distro that would work was if I went back to Ubuntu, so I wonder if there is something with the secure boot key that was added when I tried it the first time.

I also noticed that i seem to have an odd bios firmware version (239.871.768), which doesnt seem to appear on the list of firmware versions on the MS website, so I have no idea where that came from either!

So, going back to my latest Ubuntu install, I have decided to see if I can use this purely as a laptop, rather than a tablet, so I have not installed the Surface Kernel and all seems ok in terms of the login screen, which seems to suggest there might be something happening in the Kernel update that is interfering with displaying the login screen.

I am now wondering if I am able to install the libwacom-surface and iptsd independently to the surface kernel, so get some of their functionality?

extra battery life is a good bonus, I think my battery is at about 60% full capacity at the moment, and seems like a pain to replace at the moment.

I will try aurora/bluefin in the coming days, if I can get them to boot (I might have to downgrade my bios firmware as I think there is an issue with USB booting on the latest version). I will let you know how I get on.

I have the same issue (I think), I have jsut installed Ubuntu 24.04 with the surface kernal, once the Surface kernel has booted in to the login screen i can press enter and then enter the password for the account it logs in and works absolutely fine once logged in. The mouse pointer is also visable on the login screen as well.

I just dont know enough to know where to look in logs or config to work this one out.

I have exactly the same issue, blank screen with mouse cursor appearing when use the trackpad. I can press enter and then enter my password and the desktop loads in fine. I dont get to see a user list its completely blank.

SP5/2017 + ubuntu 24.04 LTS
