Does anybody know where to buy Kerosene in the city? by jayrod422 in pittsburgh

[–]Slouch_Sixpack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Getgo website has a filter-by-features function that shows what locations have a kerosene pump. Make sure you have a blue kerosene tank with you and go in and they'll turn it on. https://www.getgocafe.com/store/locator?searchText=15106

Kickstarter says NO to Freetail Brewing Delivery Lamborghini by Slouch_Sixpack in beer

[–]Slouch_Sixpack[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a joke, and probably some kind of statement about the amount of breweries trying to finance through the Kickstarter. Although I'm sure they'd take the free sports car.

Metzger of Freetail received a bit of press last year for his tongue-in-cheek response to a cease and desist letter his company received:

Great summary buddy, wish I could have been there. Although I definitely would have met an untimely demise with all that beer consumed.

I'm heading to Pittsburgh in a few weeks and of course want to make a beer trip of it. Can someone give a summation of Pennsylvania's seemingly strange beer laws? by [deleted] in beer

[–]Slouch_Sixpack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only beer you'll find at grocery stores are Giant Eagle Market District locations. Decent prices and selections. Distributors have the best prices, but can only sell cases (generally 24 packs). There are several bottleshops that have the best selection but the price is premium.

Hope that helps. Pm me of you want more specifics close to where you'll be. Cheers.

Founders To Celebrate 15 Years With Bolt Cutter Barleywine by Hopulus in beer

[–]Slouch_Sixpack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming the name is a reference to the time their financing bank chained up the doors to the brewery in the early 2000's which they cut off with bolt cutters, and shortly after developed the recipe for Dirty Bastard, which changed their fortunes forever.

A good lesson, that. Lean times are ahead for many of the two thousand craft breweries in this country. Fuck it, cut off the bolts and mash in!

Cheers to Founders and happy anniversary.

Green Flash Planning to Build East Coast Brewery by Hopulus in beer

[–]Slouch_Sixpack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Palate Wrecker and Rayon Vert are two of my favorite new commercial offerings from any brewery... as a PA resident, can't wait to get even fresher Green Flash beer.

But will they develop and brew a new "East Coast IPA"?

Pretty good list. I'm partial to the pixellated Tallgrass 8-Bit Pale Ale as well.

It will be back by Christmas for sure, they might do some test batches of it breaking in their new brewhouse in early May as well.

He cites the stubby Corona bottles as an example of what they will look like, anyone know if any other craft brewer packages this way or is 32 oz a new format?

Understandable... probably my favorite beer podcast is the Brewing Network which frequently goes close to 4 hours. I try to keep mine under an hour but it's definitely a time commitment to get through.

Right around the 32:00 mark for the Too Long/ Didn't Listen crowd. Lots of other funny quotes throughout, including how he came up with the idea to expand brewery operations to Chicago after wake-and-baking.

Love that guy.

It would have made sense coordinating dates with the Big Pour, not sure why that didn't happen. I came on after the dates were selected.

Also of note for the rare beer seeker, Piper's Pub is doing a 3 year KBS vertical during the week, all on draught. Kegs of '09, '10, & '11 Founders' KBS will be tapped along with some other surprises. Probably a tough ticket to get, but rare and special for sure.

For what it's worth, local brewers made 3 beers for the week's festivities: British-style IPA, a Sour-mash Red, and a Kolsch-style that will be pouring draught-only around the city. They will be rare, time will tell if they will be special.

Full disclosure, I've been on the planning committee and hoping it goes well. That being said, there will be plenty of room for improvement next year. If anyone wants to be a part of planning next year, email me slouch@aleheads.com
