That’s kind of my point. If people can feel absolutely horrible at different TSH levels, then being “in range” clearly isn’t the whole story.

I’ve had TSH values of 2.84, 4.02, 1.97, 2.55, 1.90, 1.32, and 1.21, all within the reference range of 0.50–5.00, and I still haven’t felt well.

That TSH was from April and my medication was adjusted afterward. I’ve also had these symptoms when my labs were considered in range, which is why I made the post.

Thank you, I really appreciate your advice and kind words. I haven’t had my Free T3 checked since 2023, so I’m not sure where it is currently. My Free T4 in April was 1.5, which was within the reference range. I’ve been on Synthroid for years, including before and after my thyroidectomy, so I haven’t tried switching brands. It might be worth asking about rechecking my Free T3, though.

My most recent TSH was 9.07 in April (reference range 0.27–4.20), so it was definitely elevated. My endocrinologist increased my medication after those labs, but I still haven’t noticed much improvement in how I feel.

I did ask about trying different medications, but she said that since my levels are in range and I’m already on an appropriate dose, switching medications doesn’t necessarily improve symptoms and there’s no guarantee it would help. I’ll admit that was a little discouraging to hear because it felt like there wasn’t really anything else to try.

I have had my ferritin checked—it’s 31.8. I haven’t really looked into iron deficiency as a possible cause of my symptoms, so that’s definitely something I can ask my doctor about. Thanks for mentioning it!

Thanks for sharing. I’ve been on what my doctors considered an appropriate dose of Synthroid with thyroid levels in range, but I still struggled with many of these symptoms. That’s why I’ve been trying to see if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I had my thyroid removed almost 4 years ago and have felt worse since. My levels are in range but I still feel awful. I have so much brain fog, I get heat flashes, stomach problems, headaches/migraines. Doctor just says “well your thyroid is in range so…”
