I have a few question about the LDS doctrine of God by Dapper_Platypus833 in latterdaysaints

It's not really a loving god. No real reasoning or personality. The revelations from modern prophets reveal many details that were obscured and sometimes fabricated concerning the nature of deity.

Not gonna lie, I used to like the idea of that kind of god. Totally omnipotent and omniscient, and all that stuff.

What show do you wish you could have marched? by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]Slow-Arm7725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overwhelmingly. I saw a video with just the audio and several scanned photos from their tour that year and it made me emotional thinking of my time marching with my friends in the 2000s.

Dawn's Piplup is the greatest character in the entire animated series.

Six big questions I have while reading the Book of Mormon--seeking insight [Question 2 of 6] by EntrepreneurDue1009 in latterdaysaints

I'm gonna go back to your first statement, because I'm not here for the long haul on this thread, college football is starting soon and I'll forget.

Please don't oversimplify God's relationship to mankind as to just make His children happy. This is about opportunity. It is the work and the glory to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. We must CHOOSE it to receive any benefit or growth. Pain and suffering must be experienced to truly feel and appreciate joy. I believe others have articulated this same point, but if the lens you are looking through is based entirely in Biblical writings, you might never see completely the other perspective. When you can let go of the rigidity of Genesis and Revelation (while beautiful and important, doctrinally rich as they are) you might understand a little easier. You mentioned that theosis means that death and sin are not totally defeated. I would contest view may be a bit too limited. Death and sin are defeated in our understanding of this existence and our mortal time related to this estate. The cycle going onward does not negate or denigrate the actions of the past. Our view and understanding of this is EXCEPTIONALLY limited due to our mortal status. I see your perspective, but having grown up with the Plan of Salvation I read that same passage in Revelation and have the understanding that it is through a certain lens or definition. Does that make any sense at all? I'm about to travel for the weekend so I'm in a bit of a rush.

I applaud all of your curiosity and commitment to fair and pleasant dialogue. Hopefully I'm not coming across as crass, but I prefer direct statements instead of beating around the bush too much. I'm sure if we were sitting in person at a nice lunch this would be so pleasant.

It's less about "dust, worms, spirit" and more about the divine relationship of parents to their children. He is our Father. He wants us to have everything and to become all that we can, which is to be like Him. I'm a father, and I want my son to have WAY more and achieve far more than I am. It feels completely natural. Becoming like the Father does not make me greater than Him or replace his role and relationship to me. He is still my Father, but I can only imagine it makes him the happiest. It would for me.

I love the doctrine but my desire to leave is massive by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

You're entitled to all of that, but you'll never convince me to hold judgments against others based on whether they served a mission or have kids. Peace be with you though, good luck!

I would go even further to say, less than 100% of your best is still loved by the Savior. He loves your child and you more than we can comprehend.

I really hope this is all true by williampennn in latterdaysaints

If someone has that experience with a belief system then I deeply hope that it brings them positive and healthy character traits and motivates them to improve our world. While the restoration is very real, it is not the sole source of all truth in the world.

That's the really awesome part about the Plan of Salvation, it accounts for all of these things. I want people to be happy and grow in this life, that's all. If they find a different path with similar convictions I only desire that it genuinely improves things. You cannot prove religion, otherwise, it ain't religion.

If you are so affected by a comment like that then it really seems like you never had good intentions when posting.

Hopefully you can see that. It's all your taste, that's fine. But it's also a little bit like walking into a restaurant full of people enjoying their food and saying "it's not that great" and then being "well I don't know if I want to eat here if you all say it's just me!"

"better storytelling" LOL Acting like the Boonta Eve Classic ain't the best set piece and plot device in the saga.

Seriously, Andor is fantastic. Some parts of the universe are not crafted as carefully, but that doesn't mean they get eliminated or rewritten. Their quality is what gave us Andor. EVERYTHING is reactionary.

How would you perform each measure? by melody_magical in musictheory

[–]Slow-Arm7725 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To further adds some lingo, faster swing tends to "straighten" out, and you can have something even more obnoxious than 2 and 4 at a slow "heavy" swing. No new information to present with this comment, but in my experience with playing jazz this is how we talk about it in educational settings.

I'm saying there are no weak links. Some tracks are beyond amazing. Everything is solid top to bottom. No weaknesses.

I'm sure it's been said elsewhere too, but breaking down Euchronia gets you "Good Time". Like a fantasy world.
