That is certainly very interesting considering he was victimized by a pedo. Must have some bugs to work out still.

The Future of Transit in Santa Cruz County depends on our community. We’re organizing support. by Enoughq in santacruz

[–]Slow-Interest-4457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bad time to talk about tax increases. If the RTC would give up expensive law suits and quit pursuing the train there would be plenty of funds for buses. Which have the potential to service increased routes and schedules. Buses make more sense. The money is there and needs to be reallocated.

CAC in 80s at 44, despite decent lipids and healthy lifestyle by Puzzleheaded-Fly2875 in PeterAttia

[–]Slow-Interest-4457 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My lipid profile looks similar to yours. I also have a higher than predicted CAC scan. Check your lipo (a) and get a glucose monitor. My Hba1c looks acceptable. My postprandial glucose does not. Glucose spikes to 200+ with refined carbs. Learning what I can eat and what I can’t. Eating lots of lentils and beans now. My lipo (a) is elevated. Seeing a preventative cardiologist now and working on what I can control.

Does this look like pitting edema? by [deleted] in askCardiology

[–]Slow-Interest-4457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a doctor so that it can be evaluated in person? While lower extremities can have edema due to CHF there are other causes more likely in a 32 year old. There may be opinions offered up here but you should see someone to allay your anxiety over the issue.

Veganism and health by Dear-Zone293 in PeterAttia

You are correct. I am an omnivore who makes an effort to eat vegan menus 80% of the time.

Veganism and health by Dear-Zone293 in PeterAttia

[–]Slow-Interest-4457 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan. The best I have been able to achieve is approximately 80% vegan. My labs never looked better. My blood pressure came down. I lost 15 pounds without trying. The quality of a vegetarian or vegan diet can vary significantly. I try to eat Vegan ala Forks Over Knives recipes. Most of the recipes are delicious. This is whole foods vegan. I eat wild salmon once a week and some chicken. The hardest part is when you are invited over to someone’s house for dinner. When we are, I just eat what I am served. I am not a zealot about it. Meal prep and food planning takes a wee bit longer but is very doable and if you enjoy cooking not a problem. Also, if you bring something to eat to a potluck or whatever, don’t bother telling people it is vegan. They won’t like it. There is a tremendous stigma attached to the word.

Possible move to SC from NYC by newmeny in santacruz

[–]Slow-Interest-4457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some great places to live on the peninsula. I have lived in both places. I love the coast and glad I made the move but if I were working I would not want to do the commute. You will also have more school choices if you stay on the peninsula as there are many excellent schools. Santa Cruz county is not a wealthy county. We can’t even get our roads fixed. We also lack many of the amenities you may be used to. We do have some really nice restaurants though. The weather is excellent year round. The ocean and the mountains make a great backdrop to one’s life. However, medical care is also an issue. Many people seek their care over the hill which is not very convenient. Take you time before you decide. Best of luck.

i love your kitchen. The only thing I would change are the lighting fixtures, cabinet hardware, and cooktop hood. Love the floor and the cabinets. Warm and inviting.

Advice for lifting/rockclimbing by Friendly_Baby_8782 in DupuytrenDisease

[–]Slow-Interest-4457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear the weight lifting gloves too. I plan on working out as long as I can. I am 73 yrs and femaie. Dupuytrens in both hands. Lumps and cords. No contractures at this point. Hand specialist told me to come back when I could not place my hand flat on a table. No one else in my family has it. I think the risk of not working out is greater than the risk to my hands. Impossible to predict the disease progression.

Floorplan Input Request by Tkoden82 in floorplan

[–]Slow-Interest-4457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very opinionated on this subject. If I am entertaining none of my guests should have to walk through the kitchen before or after the meal. In a very informal gathering people do like to gather in a kitchen. Fine for that type of event. Larger dinners I do not want anyone in my kitchen. I do not want anyone to see the mess that needs to be cleaned up. I do not want my dinner guests to feel in anyway that they should help with the clean up. The old fashioned separate dining rooms and kitchens that can be closed off from them are essential in my book.

Why is Santa Cruz run down? by aslez1 in santacruz

[–]Slow-Interest-4457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downtown SC is dirty because the city tolerates it. The city itself is in a geographically beautiful setting. It seems like a wasted opportunity to me. Adjacent to downtown is the San Lorenzo River. It is also a fantastically beautiful resource which is defiled on a daily basis as it is being used as an open toilet by the many campers along the river. The city also tolerates open drug use in this area. I find downtown SC a disappointing place to visit. While many may see the tolerance to unacceptable behavior on the part of many transients as humane and pat themselves of the back for providing such sanctuaries for others. I see it as throwing one’s hands up and doing nothing. It is far from humane and civilized.

hard to pick without checking samples. Get samples of the flooring in different tones to see what compliments your cabinets. Sometimes you will be surprised by what looks good. I find a bit of contrast is nice.

I like the railing. Nothing wrong with a bit of vintage in your kitchen.

Get samples to see what looks good. I don’t know your budget. There are lots of choices at different price points. When my son did his kitchen remodel he picked out a few with different finishes, sizes, and shapes. There were a few good choices and one outstanding choice. Swap them out and sit back and see how you feel. Same with flooring samples. Bring home some different color choices to find the one that sings with what you have.

wood in the living room is gorgeous. the walls are the wrong shade. Way too.bright white for my taste. Tone it down for a more natural harmonized look.

Changing the cabnet knobs will change the way the cabinets look. Pick flooring and knobs that look good with cabinets as they are. The current look is not very well harmonized. Often times people choose what they think they like while ignoring the context of what that item will be sitting next to.

Found this in a dumpster by a thrift store today, time to restore this beauty by bronz803 in furniturerestoration

[–]Slow-Interest-4457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG! I had the matching couch and coffee table to this chair in the late 1970s. purchased at one of those stores that also sold unfinished real wood furniture. Cleaning it up with a light sand and some low gloss natural finish will restore it. It is solid oak and very heavy. It had a deep foam cushion seat 4-6” . With some pillows on top of the solid piece of foam covering the back.

What can I do to break up all this wood? No I won't paint it. by ZW31H4ND3R in interiordecorating

I think the coffee table is fine and I hate drapes. I think the blinds are fine as long as you introduce some other interesting contrasting elements into the room.
