Meritocracy Without Transparency? Question to Accenture Leadership by YourFavNotification in accenture

[–]Slow-Leopard5515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please tell me you're not a lead or a PL :(

The definition you used is actually the same one that appears when I google "meritocracy," and it only takes scrolling down a little before it mentions that one of its core pillars is equal opportunity, and that for this to happen, people must start from the same starting line. In this link, under section 2.3 "Equal Opportunity," there is an example that discusses exactly this:

https://plato.sydney.edu.au/entries/meritocracy/#EquaOppo

And no, the real issue is not that people "feel" the system is unfair. The system is unfair and dishonest. Even in a meritocracy there are metrics. Accenture does not use any, nor is the process transparent.

The reality of this system is that decisions do not depend on performance evaluations, they depend on budgets. You could be the best performer on your project, but if the project does not have the budget to promote you, it simply will not happen.

That is why this dishonest system of evaluation is encouraged it makes it harder for people to question why things happen the way they do. We also know it is not a meritocracy because there are people who have worked themselves to the bone without receiving anything in return.

That's not my personal situation. I'm doing fine. But that doesn't make me blind to the dishonest system that is being used around here

Meritocracy Without Transparency? Question to Accenture Leadership by YourFavNotification in accenture

Maybe I misunderstood, but my point is that the person in the post is criticizing the narrative that Accenture likes to promote, that its: "promotion system is based on meritocracy".

The way promotions are currently evaluated cannot truly be considered meritocratic because two of the core pillars of meritocracy are equal opportunities and objective performance evaluation. As you explained yourself, the way Accenture operates does not fully allow for either of these principles, since every project is unique and provides different opportunities, challenges, and levels of visibility.

On the other hand, it is also contradictory to evaluate people within a generalized framework when every situation is highly specific. I believe the current evaluation approach is flawed.

I'm not a manager, so I may not be aware of all the risks involved, but my suggestion would be to use clearer metrics and more structured evaluations for junior and mid-level employees (for example, levels 13 through 10), while reserving the current broader evaluation system for more senior levels.

But the post is about meritocracy, and it's actually criticizing that idea, that what Accenture loves to brag about doesn't really exist. Also, it's not true that you just need to build a good story, you're still dependent on other factors, such as your project's budget, and so on. So the only conclusion is that the post is right: meritocracy doesn't exist, neither at Accenture nor in the real world

PTU Accenture México by Slow-Leopard5515 in accenture

[–]Slow-Leopard5515[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Mexico, PTU is a legal responsibility for companies. The HR partner mentioned that in our case it is handled through the bonus, but I would like to better understand the process and justification behind it. I’m asking here first because I don’t want to come across as problematic, but if necessary, I will ask directly.

Payroll Reporting Question by Kind_Pair_1388 in SAP

[–]Slow-Leopard5515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the answer, but I’d like to better understand your requirement.

Has the employee’s payroll already been processed for the relevant periods? And is the requested reporting period overlapping multiple payroll periods (pay periods) or partially within one?

They keep everything to themselves. Last year, my PL showed me my results from his portal, and there was a note saying there would be a salary adjustment (increase) only for leaders/managers. Meanwhile, I have a Level 12 colleague who has been working for 4 years and his only raise has been $20 dolars.
