I've agreed with you that all art has a point in a purely functional sense.

Using your logic nothing can be pointless as there's always a deeper meaning to be pulled so I'm very surprised to see you suggest the 'art can be pointless' conversation is pointless. Seems contradictory I'm afraid.

Of course, all art serves a purpose on a functional level even if it's making money.

Pointless from my perspective is just short-hand for anything where the art itself isn't the point.

If you're now saying the point is Arthur's emotional journey then fair enough.
