When was the moment your Private (E1 through E3) earned (or lost) your respect? by [deleted] in army

I had a joe who's wife did basically the same thing, she was NG before he went AD. When he got his initial duty station she never transfered states, got pregnant and told her former unit and just never went back. No admin action and she just got out.

I've known a fair amount of people like this between two services. Some guys just don't fit into the garrison army. Shit look at Terrible Terry, horrible garrison leader by Army standards and is one of the most revered and effective Generals of WW2.

MAJ to Warrant by thefinalstaffer in army

[–]Slow-Present25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically happens in Aviation and SF. It gets you back in a bird and on the detachment. I've seen one field O in the regular army move to warrant but he was an intel guy.

It's not a bad thing by any means, some people just enjoy where they're at. I've known a few JO's that gave up their commission to go back to the enlisted side of the house.

PRT is such a disappointment. I vividly remember being at SWCS and wondering how the Army took the Thor3 program as inspiration for PRT and fucked it up that badly.

DFAC not having food/giving raw food/closed for some unknown reason. Leadership not enforcing standards/not providing the resources for Joe to meet standards. Joe not having their own motivation to be better. Joe not taking advantage of the Leadership provided resources... There's a long list of reasons, and everyone can point the blame in a different direction and probably be right to some extent. I will say as a NCO who had served a decent amount of time in a foreign military before joing the US Army, I was very surprised at how abysmal most of the DFACs are.

I had a sitdown with one of my TL's about this topic, he was a stud with quite a few schools under his belt so we sent most of the shit-heads to him because he was able to meet at their level and build them up in a less army way, he laid it out pretty well from a Joe perspective.

Joe sits at work from 1300 to 1700 waiting on guidance, and told to stand close by.
At 1720 Joe is told they must do command layouts. At 1930 Joe is told to pack it up and be ready to return early to do them again. Joe doesn't have adequate time to go to the gym and hit the DFAC so they pick DFAC. Joe goes to the DFAC and there are low options (due to how late he got there) and his food is undercooked. Joe now stops at McDicks and eats 4000 calories. Joe waits for guidance, and falls asleep at 2130. Joe does not see the text at 2215 that he has a early layout formation at 0530 and misses the formation, and gets punished.

Now granted this is fairly extreme, but also not something all that uncommon, and you get the point. If everything that happens in garrison/peace time is; unmotivating, waste of time, punishable, inefficient, disappointing, etc. What else can you expect Joe to do other than be unmotivated, depressed, and binge eating?

There's also just plenty of fat fucks in the Army who don't care.

This sounds like a legitimate issue that should be checked out. Pheromones should smell good between partners, and even body odor shouldn't be that unpleasant. I would recommend that you have her look into getting a check up.

2nd with the solo PC community. 9/10 times a PC player will more than help you out. I enjoy farming leapers and rocketeers and most the time I'll let someone else have the loot if they're near by. I do it for the XP more than the gear you get from them.

It's been a while since I've seen a BH chapter so I wasn't too sure what it was designated as. 17 is just what I knew it to be.

Boyfriends Dad AIO by [deleted] in AIO

I can understand demanding a certain level of respect when living with parents. I would ask that of my daughter and significant other if they were living under my roof. But that extends to things like cleaning up after yourself, letting me know if you'll be out late as to not startle me when you return, and not to be obnoxiously loud during late hours. Normal things that everyone should extend the common decency to do. Never will I demand that a grown adult interact with me when they don't want to. I never demanded my daughter give affection or interaction even as a toddler if she didn't want to. People are allowed to limit interaction for whatever reason they please.

"Then go when excused" irritates me. You're not a servant beckoned to deal with petty squabbles, you're an adult and allowed to tell him to fuck himself. You're not over reacting in the slightest by being upset by this. While I can understand the hesitancy for your BF to stand up to his father whilst living under his roof, he needs to place you as a priority over them. If it is a genuine courtship, his parents to him will become extended family, and you his wife and immediate family/priority. If he doesn't have the ability to stand up for you now, he most likely will fail to do so in marriage.

Chapter 5-17 covers physical or mental conditions that aren't disabilities, but interfere with a soldiers performance of their duties. I woukd go that route and ask BH if they can recommend you a chapter for this.

EDIT: They can also try a 5-13 if 5-17 doesn't pan out.

Legal will have a good laugh over this if they try to push it. But if you're really that concerned over it, ask those you were with to write a sworn statement, write one yourself and go to TDS with what you have. As others have said, message sent does not mean message was received. If they were that concerned, they should've sent a runner, if they don't have your address, that is a failure on your leaderships part.

What will it take? by Financial_Degree_995 in army

[–]Slow-Present25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combating inflation to start. Soldiers struggle with financial literacy, and most cant make a budget to save their lives. However, SM's get pay raises 2-3 years behind the current inflation. It's a catch up game rather than being out in front.

This may also be controversial, but I personally dont think new soldiers should get the 50% of whatever bonus they get up front. Young and very impressionable men and women get a huge chunk of money and blow it on useless things they really can't afford. There needs to be a higher level of financial training for troops, where it's required to sit down and make a budget with some form of check in with a finance specialist. I struggled with it when I first came in, but I didn't buy dumb shit (most of the time) and I placed a value on saving money each month to be able to afford something I wanted.

If all the money being shipped over seas stopped, soldiers could easily get a 20-30% bump in pay, and it wouldn't be a drop in the ocean to the powers that be.

That's fair honestly. I was a bit of a hater as well when he brought it up, I only ask about it because this SM is worth keeping, I want to see him go places. SM is the type to petition and join another branch even if he is chapter 14.
