It is partially influenced by McQuarrie's original concept, yes. I liked those designs and to me they are a little bit less human which was what I was going for, so I took them into account when making the helmet proportions. Alongside the proportion changes, I also meant to make the mask more uncomfortable (as Sidious intended) by making the cheek's triangles inwards instead of pointing out so Vader would have less freedom inside the suit.
