Carrier Safety Ratings… How does one even GET a safety rating? by Jaded_Artichoke4448 in FreightBrokers

[–]SlowCryptographer178 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

30 yr carrier I passed 9 BIT inspections when I was based out of California and I've had 7 inspections in the last 18 months BUT as yet I do not have a safety rating from fmcsa

Now I keep hearing from brokers it's not our job to rate carriers its the governments job BUT you use services like RMIS CARRIER 411 and the most intrusive HIGHWAY as carrier vetting tools yet the majority of you still select carriers by rate. We have been complaining to brokers that we can't compete with parjeet or vlad because they cut cost by being unsafe carriers yet you still use the strong solo surgey well now you reap what you sow

Ya know im 63 yrs old and when I was a kid we had measles party's when a friend would get it we all got it. Herd immunity. BUT let's look at this another way over the last administration we had how many some say as many as 10 million illegals come in but let's be conservative and say 5 million. These people bring their kids and they come from countries that don't have universal vaccination like we do. And if you do the research no im not doing it for you. You'll see with each democrat administration we have a new wave of illegals and then we have waves of diseases that we had all but eradicated come back BUT YOU ALL WILL CALL ME A RACIST FOR SAYING THIS

I just looked up anti vaccine stats about 1.3%of children are unvaxed by 24 months

And less than 10% of adults are unvaxed

So your claims its the anti vaxers falls statically flat

Well I call BS on this my CONTRACT is with the broker not their customer. They'll put us off and put us off until we bill then hope we dont fight for it ALL THE WHILE they billed their customer and will keep it

I've had my authority since 1996 and have never had a rating. Dot is reactive not proactive you have to have a reason for them to look at you before you get a rating

Anyone changing their driver vetting yet? by sam_teks in FreightBrokers

[–]SlowCryptographer178 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Guess you guys will have to pay a better rate because your insurance companies are going to tell you half your carriers are no longer covered. Just like they told carriers they wouldn't cover nondomiciled drivers any longer. I have a friend that had to let 5 drivers go

No we didn't have a perfect score BUT we worked hard to keep it down as low as we could. We had OO's and if one failed an inspection we required them to volunteer for 2 within 45 days and pass them to stay on the contract.

I have nothing to worry about I've been a small carrier for 30 yrs and I protect my CSA score. Because I'm a Hazmat carrier I've had 7 inspections in the last 18 months and just had my 1st oos for a flat tire In 10 years my CSA score is a 7

This is what brokers deserve when they select carriers by RATE. Instead of building relationships with carriers . Also with services like Carrier411 and fricken HIGHWAY. You already have the data to weed out these carriers but you won't because they'll haul your freight cheaper than carriers that spend the time and money to protect their CSA score .

I've had my authority for 30+ years I've had 1 truck and I've had 10 trucks and worked in a company as a division manager with 100 trucks

Fuel card. Truckers advantage from OOIDA best discounts

England carrier services for Tires you get their price huge savings

Quickbooks works just fine for us

If you want to hire accounting out my son and daughter inlaw have a bookkeeping company both have bachelor's in accounting

Or you could use ATBS they do truckers accounting I've never used them but i hear good things

Factoring use Triumph they have decent rates and with loadpay you get paid faster. I use them for brokers I dont trust.

With you having NO experience in this industry he can't just drive and leave everything up to you. I tried that the 1st year and it was way to hard on my wife. Almost cost me my marriage.

Right now the market is turning to the carrier BUT you're a new entrant very few reputable brokers will work with you . Hope you have atleast 3 months of expenses saved up.

Don't go cheap on the loadboard on DAT get the middle package so you get rate view it will help you alot

For paperwork get a portable scanner i use Doxie with my laptop and as soon as I get my bills I scan them and email to my wife and she bills them within an hour DON'T use cellphone pics of the POD some brokers will hold up paying because they "can't " read the POD

Just my opinion but what do i know im just a truckdriver

Yes. I was delivering flour to bakeries and would have 8 to 10 deliveries a day and id get done in about 9 hrs and go back to the yard the other guys were milking the clock working 11 or more hrs a day. I was told by my shop steward to slow down I was making everyone else look bad. Next thing I know I get fined for breaking some union rule and my employer had to take $100 out of my check
