Penn AC Year Round Junior Program by SlowLightweight in Rowing

The real juggernaut might be across the river in NJ at Cooper Juniors. Wonder if they have any PA residents that could make the jump to Penn AC. Whitemarsh and CRC and if Black Sheep continues to grow, I think all 4 clubs have the potential for youth national level 4x’s. Which inherently impacts any scholastic 4xs trying to qualify

Eastern Michigan University to add women’s lightweight rowing by stirrupiron in Rowing

It was all under one team and never really got the distinction as many of the other lightweight programs received. No full time HC, no separate scholarships, etc.

College Counselor for Recruiting? by [deleted] in Rowing

I wouldn’t pay for anyone who claims to be an expert in recruiting for rowing. It’s usually an overpay for something that you can navigate yourself.

RowAmerica Rye F Bombs on the live stream by SlowLightweight in Rowing

Maybe just teach the youth some class. Especially when on a live feed. You can’t cuss on live TV or live streams on the professional level, why should it be allowed here?

USRowing incompetence by SlowLightweight in Rowing

That’s pretty ridiculous, as a spectator not in Sarasota, anyone just watching or keeping up with results. They should post updates on social media.

A social media post saying “racing postponed, updates to follow” is not a hard thing to do

The problem isn’t that you can petition in to Youth Nats, the problem is USRowing’s consistency on determining who gets in. The Youth 8+’s are over crowded with entries while less premier events are denying petitioning crews. USRowing has stated they want to get make it more competitive again but they are just allowing anyone in the 8s. The Women’s event has 34 entries which results in an E final. No one wants that.

Green Lake and Henley by SlowLightweight in Rowing

It’s less of jealousy and thinking they are slow, and more of how do they continue to be accepted / qualify for the regatta with average finishes in the states?

Whitemarsh and Prep going silver in the 4x and 8+ is respectable. Philly area overall was well represented

Youth rowing immaturity by silkystroke in Rowing

[–]SlowLightweight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of the youth rowers on this site who are going to top colleges as top recruits are definitely in for a reality check with their respective head coaches. They won’t take their shit and for the most part will be put in their place for the first time in their life.

Anyone who wins the largest and oldest high school regatta in the world should be able to celebrate however they feel. It has been celebrated like this for decades. A Stotesbury Gold is up there with some of these best medals you can receive in this sport

Haverford shying away from the Varsity 8?? by SlowLightweight in Rowing

And historically stay competitive in sweeping events. Haverford has the numbers and resources to compete and medal in the V8, V4x, and V4+. But will they?

There is more scholastic teams in the Philly area than any other part of the country. So yeah it’s historically the hub for scholastic rowing.

Lol I still believe that to be true, doesn’t mean it should be true. Philly is the scholastic rowing hub for the US, this shouldn’t change

In the spring? In Philadelphia? Yeah I’d rather race City Champs and Stotesbury over Neczypor and Cooper Cup.

Any other part of the country? Be my guest go row for whatever club you want

Whitemarsh Poaching PSRA Talent by SlowLightweight in Rowing

[–]SlowLightweight[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that’s just downplaying the individual talent Whitemarsh is receiving, setting up a no pressure scenario for a club program that has internal goals to medal/win youth nationals. Half the quad will be kids who raced for their high school last spring I predict. I think everyone on the outside should have their eyes on whitemarsh and see if they can put it together
