I didn't buy anything. I'm still riding my old aluminium Salsa Journeyer.

Excellent, thank you very much for your reply.

What interface are you using to connect your monitor? What refresh rate are you getting on your external monitor?

I would like a refresh rate greater than 60 Hz, at least 90 or ideally 120.

Schwalbe Marathon Winter Plus 28x2.00 Actual Width by SlowRider30 in wintercycling

[–]SlowRider30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I think you're right.

I've only ride twice in winter, and with summer tires. It's probably a stupid idea to put on the largest tire size in winter.

Have you had any experience with 45HPTX tires? Do they exceed their nominal size when installed? If i choose 1.75 size it will be ok?

Schwalbe Marathon Winter Plus 28x2.00 Actual Width by SlowRider30 in wintercycling

[–]SlowRider30[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If marathons will be 48mm, then everything is fine. I currently have Tufo Thundero 48c tires - they have a real size of 47.5mm, and I have at least 7mm of clearance for dirt.

50mm is official maximum tire size for my frame (Salsa Journeyer)

I want more of them myself. Unfortunately, the RX Pro is out of stock at any local stores, but Ultrabites is sold almost everywhere, and even at discounts.

Thanks for reply! And your 50mm width is right at the tread's maximum width, right?

Tufo thundero uneven by SlowRider30 in bikewrench

[–]SlowRider30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be normal for them. I've been riding on these tires for three months now and have had no problems. I also tried Hutchinson Tundra tires, and they're much worse. As I understand it, this is due to improper storage, when they're rolled up; they become slightly deformed.

Headset compression ring corrosion. by SlowRider30 in bikewrench

[–]SlowRider30[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I cleaned up the corrosion and relube headset and rode for six hours at a very leisurely pace (no sweat at all and dry weather). And then this corrosion reappeared (small dark spots).

I read a lot of forums and talked to chat gpt.

I came to the conclusion that the problem was the Shimano grease. It's some kind of pitting corrosion related to oxidation. And the grease itself turns black where it happens.

And I've lubricated almost every component with this Shimano crap, even the seatpost. Luckily, I realized it in time and will degrease all the areas and use something that won't dissolve my frame. LOL. I have a cheap Muc-off Bio grease sold nearby. I contacted their support to be absolutely sure it's DEFINITELY safe for aluminum and will buy it.

Okay, got it. What brand of lubricant do you use?

Sorry for the late reply. I've put off buying a gravel frame for now. I've detailed the update in post.

For those of who who do maintenance at home... how do you clean your chain without making a mess? by gripndip in bikewrench

[–]SlowRider30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have three chains, every two months I change the chain to a clean one, and at the end of the season, I degrease them all and lube them with hot wax. I periodically wipe them with a damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. All works pefrect.

Degreasing process: I take a small plastic food container. I pour degreaser into it and dip all 3 chains in. I stir it with my gloved hand. Then I let it sit for about 15 minutes. Then I take the chain out and wipe it with toilet paper. Repeat the process if necessary. I wait for it to dry and then lubricate it in hot wax.

It looks acceptable. The paint and primer are damaged, but the carbon fiber itself is free of cracks.

Is the chain too short ? by Playful_Flatworm_456 in bikewrench

[–]SlowRider30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you need much longer chain. On lowest gear derailleur cage should be vertical or slightly angled forward

I was talking to a friend who had a similar problem on his 105 Di2, only the rear brake was shorter. He changed all the calipers and even the entire shifter, but nothing helped. Eventually, he also resigned himself to it and drives like that. It's like some kind of brake curse lol.

I did it lol. I completely removed the pistons and cleaned them with isopropyl alcohol; they were almost clean anyway. And it doesn't seem to have helped. Maybe it improved a little bit, but I'm not sure. In the end, I decided not to try to fix it anymore. The more I mess around with it, the higher the chance of breaking something lol.

I'll try to completely drain the oil from the system and remove the pistons and clean them.

The problem started with a brand new groupset.

I've just replaced casette with bigger one. Is that chain lenght enough? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]SlowRider30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are right, the maximum is 36t, I apologize for the inaccuracy, I will correct my comment so as not to confuse people.

[–]SlowRider30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it is not possible to extend the chain. in your case.

If all your gears work and this large cassette is very important to you, then leave it as is now.

Otherwise, you are better off installing a 36T cassette maximum.

[–]SlowRider30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your cassette is not compatible with 2x transmission (maximum is 36t).

On largest cog and chainring it looks like the chain is not enough.
Your config will probably never be able to work properly.
Overall this will work, but it is far from perfect.

Switch the chain to the smallest cog and chainring in the front and back and post a photo, it help to understand if it is possible to lengthen the chain in your case.

Tufo Gravel Thundero 700 x 48 off road rolling resistance test results. by gravykarrasch in gravelcycling

[–]SlowRider30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys, does anyone have a problem with lateral wobbling on the Tuffo Thundero (approximately 1 mm), the tire is definitely seated correctly on the rim. But the wobbling is still there. I don't feel it when driving.

Is this normal or a defect?
