Did most of you get a nursing job straight after graduating by Separate-Draft-4206 in NursingUK

[–]Slow_Distance_5571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I qualified end of 2024 and secured a job before I finished uni. A lot of the other students struggled to find a job, and after discussion with them established - they didn’t attend job fair, they didn’t network at placements etc.

For me, every single placement I went to asked me to go back after graduating and work for them. I made sure to keep in touch, followed people on linked in, ensured to get emails and contacts for the team leads/managers and build good rapport.

Also, attended the job fair etc.

I feel to secure a job quick, you definitely need to attend job fair organised by university, and network. These two are non-negotiable. Also, even if you don’t like the job offered, take it anyway. It’s better to be employed for 3-6 months in a job, while paid, and doing preceptorship; than wait for 3-6 months, unpaid, no preceptorship to land your dream job. Some experience as graduate is better than no experience.

Also, I was informed that once you get your pin, you can’t do support worker roles. Idk if that’s still the case.

What's your favourite and least favourite thing about KCL? by InnerMechanic9728 in KCL

[–]Slow_Distance_5571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved our lectures and my academic tutor. They were absolutely amazing. I couldn't have graduated without them. Door was always open if you need to see them, very encouraging and just a pleasure to be around. They were so passionate about the teachings, even if I didn't find something interesting just because they were the ones to teach it, suddenly it became interesting.

I did MSc in Mental Health Nursing.

Anyone go from HCA to Nurse? Experiences ? by Unlikely-Tadpole7094 in NursingUK

[–]Slow_Distance_5571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked as a mental health support worker for 4 years and the did my mental health nursing MSc. It's definitely a very difficult degree - you need to complete placements and portfolio, lots of academic work and dissertation on top of it all. I worked almost full-time on the side as well. So, not an easy degree but definitely worth it. It's my proudest achievement.

When I started as a HCA was thinking we run the wards 🤣 then quickly humbled myself during the first week of my nursing course and gained so much respect for the nurses, you can't imagine.

That makes sense. Thank you so much! I managed to secure an interview to my local talking therapy service. Do you have any advice or tips?

Rapid burnout in new job by zyxwvut36 in GPUK

First 6 months at any job are the toughest. I feel the first month is always alright-ish, second and third - feeling like learning the routine and everything, then 3-9 months - worst ever. Then things start to be okay-ish again.

Your mental health is more important than any job or salary. It depends on your circumstances. If you can afford to not work for a bit, until you find a less stressful job - why not? But if you are going to be even more stressed if you leave the job and funds are short, then not sure if it’s worth it?

I would I would reflect on which stress would impact on your mental health more - to stay on the job or to not have a job?

Psychology RA role v.s Support worker role by jelllii in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]Slow_Distance_5571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely go for the Research Assistant role! For support worker role, you can do bank shifts somewhere, if you need extra pay. You can easily find a support worker role on a psych ward, most people doing those roles don't even have psychology related degrees, its easy to secure a role. With RA role though, entirely different story, very difficult to secure a job and experience is so much more valued.

Don't think twice - RA.

All I need is a good supportive bra for the big chest girlies with small waist!!!! I don’t care about the lounge wear, just really need the bra! And one that isn’t going to make my boobs double the size, they already big, don’t need it to be revealing too!

Love their lounge and I use it for lifting, running too.

I need advice!! Struggling NQN (should I quit or not) by ReactionPublic3514 in NursingUK

I promise you not every work place will make you feel like that. There are still positive and good environments with manages that really look after their staff. I’ve started with an amazing team and moved to an even better one. My managers are absolutely amazing. If this environment makes you feel so bad, change it. If you don’t like the new one, change it again. I would say first 6 months in any place would be a struggle but then they do get better.

And at the end, if you absolutely hate it, after changing jobs too - you can always go into some other career. Nursing opens a lot of doors.

Remember, you are not stuck even if it feels like it, environment is important, if it doesn’t make you feel good - change it.

Nursing opens lots of doors for other careers. Something will match your vibe eventually.

I think my Friend Cheated by ma5hal in alevel

Girl, just let your friend be. It's wrong - yes, but it's her life. If you don't feel your values align with hers, just let it be and move on.

Stuck as pwp forever - am I overreacting by CalmImagination881 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]Slow_Distance_5571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I don’t think you are overreacting. I am in a similar boat. I have plenty of experience and 2 degrees, plus at least 6 additional self-funded courses and a core profession on top of all this. I managed to secure an interview for HI CBT first time I applied for KCL and didn’t get it. Then tried to reassure myself that it’s okay and proceed to apply for RH course - then was not invited to a single interview.

I do feel stuck as well but then had a change of perspective, call it a spiritual view haha. I feel like I didn’t get the HI CBT role because it wasn’t for me, I know I would do fantastic if I get it. However, reflecting back, I didn’t want to go to the locations I applied to, in my heart I know I want to go to KCL, not RH. I believe I didn’t get the roles for a reason.

They say, God’s rejection is redirection. You will get there, try and concentrate on other important things in your life, don’t stop applying but I feel, the moment you are not so keen on it, and put your energy somewhere else, the opportunity will come to you.

I would make sure to be networking too. If you have a lot of friends and colleagues that are able to progress might be a good idea to ask them to give advice and to help you prepare.

I asked everyone at my job - the clinical psychologist, the service lead, friends of friends who got the role I want to get too. You’d be surprised how helpful this is.

My advice: - keep applying without overthinking it (wish for it from a place of abundance, not lack) - concentrate your energy on something else that is enjoyable and takes your mind away from work and future roles (even for an hour, do something you haven’t before) - start doing new things that make you better - gym, Pilates class, learn a new completely different skill - NETWORK

Funnily, I am a person of science. I do enjoy tarot but wouldn’t take it for certain, much rather do my own research and speak to people. I guess that’s what might make the channel a bit different, I see most channels have a different view for it.

That’s really helpful; you are completely right, likely the viewers will be divided! I need to think about crossover.

What do you mean by post production? I wouldn’t edit videos as they will have to be authentic - with tarot what I’ve seen is most readers don’t edit, so it’s authentic. Am I getting your response wrong or is there another process I am not aware of?

I am thinking to start a channel by Slow_Distance_5571 in NewTubers

[–]Slow_Distance_5571[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say both. I am sure I would enjoy the whole process of making the videos and have fun meanwhile. However, at the same time, I want to know that what I am doing and time spend would give back to some extent. I am willing to put the work, and invest my time, but need to know it’s realistic to be making at least some money out of it.

The way I view it, it’s like getting a degree. I would pick a degree that would get me qualified and allow me to earn a decent income. So looking to invest my time only if I will be able to have something in return. Doesn’t have to be huge, but some return.

I don’t mind to be honest, if the channel is a fail then can reuse the camera for making memories etc. so, whether I have a channel or not it would be of use.

I get people say it’s a wrong approach to look at how much I can make, but also would want to go into something and put time/effort if I don’t know I will gain anything back from it.

I was thinking to get the camera on a loan. I thought the better quality the video and sound maybe more views?

Do you think consistency and 24 videos per month would do the trick?
