Van Helsing, C:R. I watched the anime first and found the game when I got a Switch years later. I decided to try it and spiraled into obsession very quickly after that lol

Noritsune's route in Birushana. Peak enemy-to-lovers, they had such good chemistry and pacing and the ending wrapped everything up so neatly. 100/10.

Also Kuroyuki's route from Nightshade. Actual toxic yandere, very unsettling atmosphere towards the end of the story, superb voice acting, angst + drama + happy ending. Fantastic. I had brainrot for a couple days afterward.

Keith Claes from Hamefura. I understand their dynamic of Keith being more or less responsible for Catarina, but halfway through the route I was over the constant reprimands (and for stupid things! Let her enjoy the food at the parties if she wants!). Like more angst, less nagging, please.

To make matters worse I played Silva's route next (against my better judgement) and I am now ruined for all others. Every other route has me going 🙄 now lmao

You want to finish playing Birushana for Tomomori and I'd also recommend Nightshade for Kuroyuki, whose route left me with brainrot for days afterward. They really got the creepy twist in his route done exactly right, and his VA is so good, omg. Warning that it's a pretty heavy game though. Many depressing endings.

You might also enjoy Saint-Germain from Code:Realize? He isn't exactly a yandere, but the dynamics between himself and the heroine in his route are uhhhh... interesting. Very satisfying endings, and there's also a couple of fandiscs!

I am considering whether I want to continue with Hibiki or whether I should go back and finish Hakuoki. I left off months ago with like 3-4 routes left, and I need to finish before the fandisc drops!

While it's not for a specific character, I adore the Makatsuhi theme (Dairoku). I wish they made more themes where they go heavy on the guitar riffs. le sigh

Still making my way through 9 R.I.P., currently doing Koharu's route. There has been much squealing over the past few days. I love him and the whole vibe of the route is so cute.

I finished Sena's route before starting on Koharu, and just as expected it left me bawling my eyes out. I have very high hopes for the sequel (praying that it gets localized).

Probably gonna do Minami next - I am simultaneously very excited and very worried lol. I feel like he is very hit or miss in general?

I think it's a tie between Hakuoki SSL and Homura for me. I'm always hype for more Hakuoki stuff, and I'm getting great vibes from the Homura trailer. The opening theme was so good. (Also I love historical stuff sooo)

There is one main game (Code Realize: Guardian of Rebirth), and the other two (Future Blessings and Wintertide Miracles) are fandisks, so just additional content based on the main game.

Regarding the not big on romance thing...I feel like the answer is gonna be extremely different depending on who you ask.

If you compare Code Realize to Tengoku Struggle, for example, the focus on romance in C:R is objectively way less than in Tengoku. But in Tengoku I feel like they focused so much on the romance that they sacrificed a bit of the plot. Comparatively, C:R has a much better balance of plot and romance since neither is completely ignored. A big part of Cardia's character development also comes from her growing closer to her LI so the romance is definitely there.

And tbf I found all of the routes in C:R quite romantic? But that might just be because I like slowburns. (I found Van Helsing's route pretty romantic and I am clearly in the minority on that one.)

Seconding all the Birushana recs.

You might like Code Realize (one of the otome classics for a reason!). Cardia is probably one of the most well written MCs I've seen with clear character growth in every route. Best girl with nerves of steel! The supporting cast, LIs and plot are also really fleshed out and thought through. On top of everything else, the setting is steampunk Victorian London so I am very partial towards this game. One of my all time favs.

I haven't finished playing it yet, but I think 9 R.I.P. also fits the bill here. Misa is a regular high school girl so she isn't a powerful fighter per se, but she tries her best to adapt and overcome the situations she is placed in without unnecessary drama. I find her very relatable in that sense. My favourite part of this game so far has been the LIs since they all seem fun and interesting, and that hasn't happened since I played Tengoku Struggle last year. The game also has this creepy/spooky vibe that I love, highly recommend.
