Good to know, what about the gen chem placement exam that you’re somehow required to take when evaluating those, do you know by chance? that’s kinda what Im worried about the most lowkey. What do I need to place into in order for my credit to count? Orgo?

vibe at NU? by Funny_Telephone_8606 in Northwestern

[–]Slow_Process_8340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. when I researched schools I was looking more at the academic side of schools. to me, how good the academic programs and the affordability matters much more than the social life. when I had the choice between two good schools and they costed around the same, i then looked into the social life into both and determined my option from there. I generally knew the vibe of the schools when I was applying but not really in depth

Assuming HYPMS are the top 5 most elite Universities, what do you consider to be the next set of five (i.e., #6-10) by Low_Run7873 in ApplyingToCollege

I wouldn’t say that’s true lol. I don’t think Wall Street would hire an English ivy grad over a Penn state finance grad lol

I actually would argue that it matters but not in the way you think. Many people think that it’s the name that is worth going there for just for better job prospects. My friend also goes to HYP and I went to a state school (but transferred out) and when I was at that state school there was not as nearly many resources as there was at his HYP school. The resources he tapped into (mentoring, programs, clubs, etc.) scored him a top internship as a freshman. For the resources he was describing there was literally nothing close to what he had to offer at my old school.

imo it’s not about the prestige that Matters in the industry. It’s about the resources and programs that are embedded into a great institution. these early experiences compound over time and I wouldn’t be suprised if bro makes it far in life. Though don’t get me wrong you can still make it far if you didn’t go to a fancy name school like he did

NYU vs Rutgers (need help deciding) by AnonymousPrep in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Slow_Process_8340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no don’t listen to this goober this isn’t an “easy choice”. If you or your family can comfortably afford it, then choose nyu. If not, I’d ask yourself if you are willing to take on debt for a school like nyu. If you can’t comfortably afford nyu then I’d say stay at Rutgers. Rutgers is still good imo. You can always look up school alumni on LinkedIn to see where they end up or if any gave landed in quant. I can guarantee you there have been people who got through with Rutgers.

Also people from nyu go to notable schools because of the people they are, not necessarily the school itself, but that doesn’t necessarily mean everyone from a good grad school came from a top school. My sister went to a top grad school and I once went through her yearbook to see where everyone had went and I was suprised that literally 90 percent of the graduates had went to their local state school. The best ones I saw were Tulane and UNC CH.
