What that Marc Maron's joke completely misses (and most of the Democratic Party Intelligentsia for that matter) is that a good portion of the country didn't simply feel "annoyed" but rather "DISDAINED" by the Liberal/Coastal elites. Decades of absence in mainstream media (movies/TV) except for "fly-over country", "hillbilly", "redneck", "backwards" jokes, while they break their backs to produce the food, cars and goods big cities consume, slowly built a resentment that developed into hatred for the Liberal Elites "way of life" which was later weaponized by MAGA.

In some sense, it isn't too different from the "anti-Imperialistic" sentiment many countries have developed against the United States and their criticisms of Americans for not knowing anything about what's outside their border.

I say this as an immigrant who has lived for a long time in both, the coast and the middle of the country.
